Here are some short points i have sorted out about why people loose money in this industry ?

Wrong selection of program - Some programs requires you to recruit , Some programs requires you to spend money. Some programs are made to scams users.
Wrong timing of entering into a program - Program such as company forced matrix , revenue share are good only if you enter at right time.
Misguided by sponsors - Some sponsors pimp their downline any programs which makes them money , they don't care about their downlines making money or loosing. Wrong suggestions like repurchasing or telling them that program doesn't require to recruit but it does.
