The Art of Discipline
I wanted to share these notes from an Advantage Conferences Mindset Training call last year. BTW, "MP" is short for "Most People". This training can apply to anyone in sales, MLM, or direct marketing regardless of the company they represent.
The Art of Discipline -
Earn Your Doctorate
Tim Darnell
Genesis 1:28
II Kings 5:1-14
You either discipline yourself or someone else will.
DISCIPLINE:
1. To instruct or educate; to inform the mind; to prepare by instructing in correct principles and habits; as, to discipline youth for a profession, or for future usefulness.
2. To instruct and govern; to teach rules and practice, and accustom to order and subordination; as, to discipline troops or an army.
3. To correct; to chastise; to punish.
4. To advance and prepare by instruction.
I. Discipline is an art. It is not a drudgery. It is the single thing that will allow you to rise above the masses. It is the one thing that will help you overcome your role as an MP. It is the only thing that allows you to bear fruit. Discipline is a GIFT you give yourself. It is the foundation for accomplishment. Get Discipline and you can attain it all!!!
A. Successful Reps are Disciplined Reps – they earn their DR degree. Doctors of Resourcefulness – the most important degree you'll ever have and the one degree not offered by any college or university.
1. MPs are undisciplined regarding their business
2. Disciplined Reps are serious about their business and recognize the power in consistent, disciplined activity.
3. MPs focus on pleasure, rather than accomplishment.
4. Disciplined Reps focus on initiating contacts with individuals, companies, churches, organizations, etc. every day.
5. MPs allow others to determine their goals.
6. Disciplined Reps set their own goals and achieve them.
7. *MPs depend on others to dictate their monthly income.
8. Disciplined Reps disdain the idea of someone else setting their minimums or their maximums. They despise limits and work vigorously to avoid having to have someone else tell them what and/or what not to do.
9. MPs avoid contact with others and don't feel comfortable in a social setting or one on one setting unless they can talk about non-threatening subjects such as the weather, television shows, sports or the movies.
10. Disciplined Reps love to talk with new people. They are not threatened by new situations because they know that God is in control and the only thing that will happen in the new interaction is GOOD for the other person. They know they can help that person to a dramatic extent – not necessarily with our product or the opportunity, but due to friendship and an eye for service.
11. MPs dream of 5:00 o'clock.
12. Disciplined Reps try to find every reason to put in extra hours and make one more contact.
13. MPs dream about vacations, and they take the cheapest route they can find..
14. Disciplined Reps schedule vacations at the top resorts possible. CHEAP is NOT the defining measuring stick for Champions. Steve Little is right now about an hour south of Cancun in a six star resort, all services you can possibly think of, and it's all paid for in advance.
15. MPs find fault in their product, sales tools, website, Company, Reps, Candidates, and opportunity. They see problems.
16. DRs are constantly thinking about the next strategy, campaign, Candidate, and activity. They live in the prosperity of the future, not the complexity of now. They see solutions in every situation.
17. MPs curse their luck – (notice two mistaken notions in four words.) "Everything seems to happen to me." "People just won't respond to me." "I can't be like Jim Wald, or Don Goldstein, or Jack Weinzierl."
18. DRs, Champions are thankful and grateful for everything that God has given them. They are thankful for obstacles, because they know the successful navigation of those obstacles is the story-board and exact road necessary for million dollar accomplishment.
19. MPs have few Candidates
20. Champions have Candidates coming into their business every day.
21. MPs can't believe someone would buy their product.
22. Champions expect everyone to buy their product.
B. Successful business people adopt schedules that MPs don't
1. Benjamin Franklin many, many years ago: "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise." Absolute truth.
2. Early morning is undistracted time – focus time to pin-point the "strike" that you are going to deliver today. It is planning time - writing time.
3. Discipline goes hand in hand with your clock – how do you manage your time? How can you squeeze out more activity, not less?
4. Saturday is a day to get more done, to make more contacts.
C. Successful Reps spend time in revenue generating activities
1. Is this a revenue generating activity for my business?
2. Is this an important use of my time?
3. Will I make money doing what I am doing now?
4. What exactly will allow me to make money during the next hour, or the hours I have set aside for money making activities?
5. Is this the best use of my time in order to achieve the monetary goal I have for the month?
D.
Contacting is a multi-million dollar activity
1. DRs, Champions, Successful Reps ask for business cards, and direct people to their website.
2. Professional inviters believe in, NO, they are SOLD OUT to their product, Company, opportunity, website, etc. They are sickened by the fact that they haven't apprised more people about all of the concepts they represent. They are seriously on a Blues Brothers' mission: "We're on a mission from God."
3. DRs are excited!!!!!!!!!!!!! Discipline and excitement is the powerful tandem and formula for sales success. If you lack either, you won't be prosperous. When you find both of those ingredients, you become a powerful, powerful, undeniable force that attracts success, a large organization and more resources than you can spend.
Listening to God
Obeying His Direction
