If passed, the “True Origin of Digital Goods Act” will make anonymous free speech illegal.

This is a very dangers law that's being considered in Florida - and one that could affect every state - not just Florida.

    From that page:

"What's so bad about “True Origin of Digital Goods Act”
    Let's break it down.

Supporters of the “True Origin of Digital Goods Act” say its about stopping online piracy. In actuality its about thwarting online privacy by making Internet anonymity illegal.

It allows officials to take down alleged violators without any due process. This means anyone "aggrieved" by certain content could take an anonymous website owner to court, without having to show any actual legal harm.

Florida wants any website that has commercial streaming content to post the owner's true name and contact information on the site. That means anybody operating a website that is even “likely to” host music or videos “directly or indirectly,”—even their own music or videos —could be ordered to reveal their name and address.: (read more)

Anonymous online speech a protected part of the American free speech tradition. TODGA violates both our First and Fourth Amendment rights.

    And it gets worse.
What’s even worse, this bill is ineffective because the Digital Millennium Copyright Act already covers these concerns. This new law isn't only unnecessary in order for Florida to enforce federal copyright or trademark laws—it actually creates a new avenue for legal abuse. Anyone “aggrieved” by an anonymous website owner could take that owner to court, without having to show legal harm. How does that promote Internet free speech?"

Approving that law wont change anything. Piracy will never end and pirateswill always find beter alternative to keep their activities. That law is totally worthless and violate the privacy of site onwers....

What is wrong with these worthless politicians that seem to only write laws that: penalize law abiding citizens; invade privacy; fail to address the specific phenomena that the law is supposed to address? It is obviously about controlling society, not protecting it!
It seems like in this "industry" common sense is not all that common!

If passed, the solution will be simple.
You can host your site outside Florida or even US (anyway swiss/german hostings way better US ones), where the hosters can tell florida's politicians and courts to go screw themselves . It will hurt the US (Florida) hosters as people will flee.

This is another onerous attempt by Uncle Sam to suppress whistle blowers, find them, and then persecute them. If this law is passed we will never learn about another U.S. war crime, Panama bank accounts of U.S. officials or links like this one here http://www.scam.com/entry.php?3233-H...eet-banksters.

Also there would never be another Wikileaks. This law should be called "The Gestapo Act". Send this OP link t everyone you know and lets fight this and any SOPA-like legislation tooth and nail.

By Uncle Sam? Canadian, the law that this thread is about isn't one of his at all. It's Florida's, a state law, not a Federal one.
