    Ender's Game First Trailer

Normally I don't post trailers here. But considering that this an adaptation of a multiple award winning book(which coincidentally got placed on the Marine Corps reading list) by Orson Scott Card and (some)fans have been waiting nearly 30 years for this,I give this a go:

Yes , the trailer look bland and generic.Had this not based on one of my favourite books of all time,I probably wouldn't bat an eyelid. But as it is, this is the only movie that I'm excited for this year.

Apparently someone made a rather good spoof of the trailer

    Second Trailer

{Sigh}they managed to make this one look even more generic action/adventure scifi.I'm starting to wonder if the production completely misses the whole point of the book or they were deliberately doing a Starship Troopers treatment for this movie.Neither option begets any confidence from the book readers, unless they're fishing for our scorn instead .

I've never read the book but got the starship troopers vibe from the first trailer.

Which would mean the trailer have failed to convey the story of Ender's Game. The only similarity with Starship Troopers is the aliens( know as "Formics",referred derogatorily as "Buggers" in the book) have an insect like design.Ender's Game is always more of a psychological tale (gray versus grey morality is the operative theme here)rather than a war/adventure type(despite being highly regarded by the USMC, the book is surprisingly antiwar/antimilitary).In the end ,the readers may even sympathise more with the alien menace(which is why I categorized Ender's Game as an epic tragedy).

If you're familiar with Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein and the heavily butchered movie adaptation of the book(an enigma why they would keep the name Starship Troopers if they going to change it beyond recognition) you'll understand that any comparison would leave the fans in nervous trepidation .

    My vedict on the movie:

It is not a great movie, it varies between decent and good. The consensus(even among people unfamiliar with the original work) is it had the potential to be a great and epic(the tidbit and glimpse of what the movie could be was quite tantalising) sci fi adaptation.Still , many believed it to be it is a good enough adaptation of a rather unfilmable book(it would take a miniseries or an anime adaptation to properly do justice to the source material).

If you're an avid sci fi fan or looking for a relatively intelligent two hour long movie I would recommend this (although it pales in comparison to the book of the same name) .For fans of the book ,you're obligated to watch this even though many of you would be less than satisfied(unlike the people who went into this unaware of the book) with this adaptation, I know I did.
