    Re: Miniature airport...

Okay, this is just tooooo cooool!!!! As I mentioned to you Mike elsewhere, I build small airport dioramas in the 1:400 scale. My brother has done one of LAX (it's still ongoing and always evolving) in the 1:500 scale and it's just huge. Mine are much smaller. This thing is amazing. I have watched it three times so far. That fact that they have the abiility to move the planes on concealed tracks along the runways and taxiways, and aprons and have them land and lift off is just incredible!! That is the best part of of this display. All the airbushed backgrounds are very well done. I have no idea what scale this is, but it's big. Maybe like 0 guage or even G guage. It's like a train set that runs. I love it!!!!!!I just sent it to my brother. He was excited when he put working lights on his runways. Wait til he see this thing. This diorama is amazing and it's really enormous. It must have taken a very long time to build and a lot of hands working on it. The ground foils are excellent. They even put in wear/tire marks to make them look authentic. I use Herpa buildings and ground foils. My planes are mostly Herpa and some Dragon wings as are all my accessories. It looks like they even constructed many of the buildings and you could tell that the fuel tanks for example are handcrafted. The vehicles are great. The lights work on the vehicles and on the fricking planes! lol That is why I am thinking that the scale is so large, that and the planes themselves are no way near 1:200, 1:400 or 1:500. They are big puppies. The grass and tree areas with the little houses and buildings are great too and remind very much of RR dioramas. Just wonderful work. I'd be playing with that damn thing all day long. Leave it to the Germans. They make the best of so many things, models, toys, cameras, microscopes, optics and so much more. Everytime I watch this video I see something new. Just love it!! Thanks so much for posting this. Even the music is great!

I just did a little research after watching the video for the 4th fricking time, lol and I found the website of where this display is in Hamburg, how it was built and their other displays. It also has another video of this layout.

    Gerrits Tagebuch

Going to peruse that puppy when I have time this week. Very cool indeed! Again thanks for posting this. I am sending it off to some friends and a retired pilot I know in Newport who also builds models and dioramas of airports. Would working at this place and building displays like this just be a great job or what? You get to be a kid, all day long.
