    Green Leafy Vegetables

Great health food!! Do you use them or throw them away??

    Let’s grow Greens!!

When I posted this link over in Adlanders in Facebook, there was a response from Daine that I wanted to comment on further here.

I have some pictures of turnips and mustard that we usually grow together as they both enhance each other when cooked together. Also, it takes a lot of leaves to make about 4 servings as they cook down like spinach when they are young and tender.

    Re: Green Leafy Vegetables

It seems everyday on the news now you hear of the healing effects of coffee, eggs, black pepper and lots of others that were declared to be so harmful just a few years ago. I have always believed that fresh and home-prepared foods are the healthy way to go. I grow herbs that can be used in the foods I prepare that are beneficial to human health. Green leafy vegetables are some of the most nutritious foods you can eat. They contain so many natural vitamins. Kale is really good for your eyes as well as providing iron, Vit. C and A (which is good for eyes). Most people here in our part of US throw the green tops away and only use the roots. How sad, because they are loosing so many essential natural vitamins.

Beets are one of my favorite vegetables and aid in many health problems. Do you have leg cramps or restless leg syndrome? Eat some beets or if you prefer pills, they sell those also and will help you sleep without those bothersome pains. If I could grow them or if I could get them fresh here, I use both the tops and roots. The tops taste much like spinach and are just as beneficial.

I am closing my Blog at my website, I really don't have time to keep it going. I know this is a place for balancing scam but some nutrition might give you more energy.

    Eh?

Gatoneli, your spelling makes that very difficult to read, and I'm doubtful that I'm understanding all of what you are trying to say.

I would like to say, I agree with this thread. I read a book where it was written that for the human body to have long and old life, it is necessary to receive small portion of fresh (uncooked) vegetables and fruit. The meat and other foods contain toxins which make the body old. Fresh fruit and vegetables contain vitamin and chemical elements which help to 'prevent sickness' and herbs do also. For that reason, one careful vegetable and fruit diet will help us feel good and stay younger. The nuts, almond and all cereals give us enough energy and help us live long and healthy life. Only must 'consult with dietician' (?) to get the necessary diet to feel strong and be healthy for long life.

Does that help any? Thanks gatoneli for at least trying. A few health lessons never hurts. BTW, my blog is going but Word Press is still a challenge!! It is my guess that gatoneli is having a similar problem with English language.

    Re: Green Leafy Vegetables

I have read that beets are very good for you. I force and I do mean force myself to eat a big bowl of veggies every day. I get them frozen and heat them up, last night it was refried beans. Not sure if that counts, but usually I try a blend.

A friend of mine says his brother is on the Neanderthin diet where you basically eat what hunter gatherers used to eat. Says he is having success with it. But with so many tempting choices it is hard to eat the right things.

Refried beans are full of protein and other nutrients, usually we have them with our Mexican dishes - tortillas, tocas, etc. but they are great just straight from the can and heated. Lots of beans eaten in cold weather in Kansas!! We try to balance that with fresh green salads or celery & onion. I love beets!! The canned sliced ones are about all we get in winter but I do love the fresh ones cooked with or without tops. A healthy diet is the best preventive treatment in the world and that is what gatoneli is telling us.

Hunters still rely on what they kill to add to the food supply. Deer, doves, quail, turkey are some in the US. There is a limit on deer here in our State but lots of hunters stock their freezers to last all winter.

I have been told this is not a "social site" but hey why not EXPOSE some of these scammers to a more healthy diet than just how much $$$$$$$$$$$$ they want to make!!

I have been reading Consumer Reports for about a year and they have articles every few months on what is in the food supply. It is really hard to stomach some of it, no pun intended. Hunting is probably one of the few ways to avoid some of this, more like free range on the cheap.

You wrote about herbs, do you have a full garden?

    Re: Green Leafy Vegetables

I like green leafy vegetables a lot because I know these vegetables are very beneficial for our health and fitness.
These green leafy vegetables are the part of my daily diet. I mostly take these vegetables in raw form or in salads form, in both forms they are equally beneficially.

US and Mexico are the most infected places with Monsanto GM seeds... consumers are being defrauded by them because most of their food exports are infected with GMs but there's no info in the label about it.

Green is only good when we don't try to manipulate it.

I used to but the last 2 years drought has caused us to lose most of our vegetables before the end of the season. I had a full garden of herbs at one time. Still have a few like Sage, mints, Lavender, thyme and Rosemary. I bought a Southern Woodworm herb last year and it has kept growing and lived through the winter. Not sure that I would use it but some people apparently have.

There is nothing more fun to me than growing your own plants. I am limited now as to how much I can control because it is a constant battle with weeds and grasses. I do use containers for many of my plants now. I was able to grow okra in a container last year because it was the only way to keep it watered, along with hot peppers.

Monsanto really gets me mad by manipulating seeds and experimenting with our food chain.

Sadly but it seems to be more nad more problem on the whole planet Earth.Probably next generations will have no idea how a tomato should taste,or green salat...look the new kind of green salat - you think you eat glass, besides there is nothing there - it's totally worthless for our body. Thanks God I have prity big garden. What I do is trying to get old seed,it's more and more difficult but still possible. So I plant old tomato seed but then avoid any kind of chemical - just compost.Always when I taste this tomatoes I realize what a trash people buy and eat.If tomatoes are as they should be - you do not need vinegar, oil, pepper or salt...yes you can use all of them but there is no need really...real tomatoes are wonderful tasty, rich in flavour...nowdays people buy tomatoes and are in panic if they do not have all the spices to kill the vain taste of this,in fact, delicious gift of mother nature

    Re: Green Leafy Vegetables

That is the reason I really don't like green salads. I don't use the salad dressings and like to eat the leafy lettuce, peppers, onions and tomatoes separately. As you say, they all have the delicious taste all their own. This year we are going to have to depend on the grocery store or farmer's market for our vegetables as we did not get a garden planted. I have a couple of tomato plants in containers, some dill and fennel, thyme and a hot pepper plant. It is good that you have a big garden, we used to...

...I tell you...those who have small garden will have some fun.As the time goes by,the market will bring more and more rubbish...ofcourse there are quolity products as well but they will be bloody expensive in the future..already are in fact..so having own garden is the best you can have,I didn't want to spend so many time planting all kind of vegetables but now I am happy I did - it takes me back in the time when market was full of mostly good staff...maybe you remember the SF movie where thiefs organize a robery on a bank - the year is 2500 or so.Thiefs find out that on specific day the bank will be performing a very special and precious exposition with big glass cabinet in the middle of the room protected with mighty anti-theft alarm and what is exposed under the glass cabinet - small head of green salad.
