Possible purchases with stolen cc numbers.
It seems like in this "industry" common sense is not all that common!

It's known as a "card not present" scam.

    * The purchaser uses stolen / forged credit card details to pay for the articles, then organizes for a third party to pick up the goods within a short time, before the card owner is aware his / her card has been compromised, eliminating the possibility of the delivery address being used to track the purchaser

The purchaser has probably purchased the CC details from one of the squillions of (mainly Eastern European) hacker sites offering stolen credit card details, including CVV numbers which can be easily found with a simple Google search.

I spoke to a victim of a CNP fraud recently who was stung for AUD$2300

The victim was totally unaware her card had been used.

The issuing bank actually discovered the fraud when it froze her account after it had identified the money had been used by someone in the USA to pay the webhosting costs for a HYIP ponzi scheme.

See what I mean about how easy it is:

Most of the credit card information is gained by criminals hacking into the databases of non secure sites, skimming the info they need and offering it online as you can see above.

The "mule" was something I ran into every now and again during this foray. http://www.realscam.com/f44/sweethea...l-others-2300/
The "forwarder" was probably some dupe that thinks he is dating a porn star picking up diamonds in Nigeria.
