Fake government grant calls

This one has resurfaced with the election season results:
You get a call from a 202 area code and a guy with a heavy accent says your name and number has been selected to receive a $9000 grant. He says he is from US Government grants.
If you push him to identify which agency, he tries to blow you off or gives you the US Government Grants spiel again. WHen asked directly if he was part of the US Government, he hung up.
They apparently are not too bright because I got the same call a couple of days later.
This time I played along and he gave me another 202 number to call with a "verification code". So I trotted out my trusty burner phone and called. It turns out that they want you to send them $250 to receive your $9000 grant.
