Bluegreen Resorts Hires Don Allen Holbrook

Don Allen Holbrook is advertising on his laughable blog that he is working for Blue Green Resorts. Payments from them also show on his bankruptcy filing. So much for all his talk of being a world class developer with hundreds of successful projects. Did Blue Green hire him for his advertising prowess (insert peels of laughter) or to be their somewhat well-dressed thug that can go around and threaten lawsuits and gloom and doom to any unhappy customers? Perhaps, he will be advising them to sue half of the planet???

Controversy and ill-will have followed Holbrook from job to job. He has been fired from at least 2 jobs and has been covered in newspapers across the country. Does Blue Green resorts think any publicity is good publicity???

re: Bluegreen Resorts Hires Don Allen Holbrook

Is It The Real Deal Or A Time Share Scam
Let's now talk for a moment about timeshares as real estate investments. A common question Nolo Press gets asked is "I've been told that I shouldn't buy a timeshare because it will be hard to sell later. Is this true?"

    Here's their answer:

"Very likely, yes. Timeshare owners face a few difficulties when they try to sell. The first hurdle is the lack of a strong resale market. Although statistics vary, all studies show that there are many more timeshare owners wanting to sell than there are buyers.

"Another problem is the likelihood that you will lose money on the sale of a timeshare. The original price of a timeshare may have included premiums of up to 40% to cover sales costs. Also, timeshare properties age and can become less desirable. So, your resale price may be anywhere from 20% to 60% of the original purchase price -- plus you will have to pay a commission to the broker (often as high as 20% of the resale price) who sells the property for you."

Some people prefer to look at the costs of a timeshare in terms of the money they spend on their vacations rather than as an investment. Just be sure it makes sense and that you want to go to the same place every year -- or that there are good options for trading which will work for you year after year.
Many timeshare owners desperate to unload bad investment - FOX19.com-Cincinnati News, Weather & Sports
"You're finding people who have already tried or already discounted their timeshare up to 99% off and in many cases giving it away for free," said Rogers.
Timeshares are tough enough to sell and resell without having an oily used car salesman type like Don Holbrook involved. His propensity for gross exaggeration and legal threats is just what a timeshare outfit needs.

    Holbrook declares:
I work and make a living at a very reputable publicly traded company as their speaker.
The problem is Holbrook is speaking out online with alarmingly threatening and vicious attacks on legitimate critics and making quite a name for himself. Does he represent Blue Green Resorts in a fashion that they desire with his frequent outbursts and his using their name on his published rants?

BXG: Summary for Bluegreen Corporation Common St- Yahoo! Finance

Blue Green is publicly traded and I would bet they would not be happy to have one of their speakers involved in a nasty SLAPP suit. Not all publicity is good publicity despite what Don Holbrook spouts online:

Don Holbrook • You are a loud mouth quack and judgmental to a fault. I'm not worried about you in the least. It is you and your ignorant followers that should worry., I will be filing suit against you again in Texas and Maurizio in Neveda as well. Better go mortgage your double wide wit by. Unless you get a real job or your crackpot website has some revenue, you'll need the cash for legal defense.
Is Holbrook sure that I am the loudmouth???

Timeshares get plenty of complaints as it is. Imagine the complaints they will get after the used car salesman high pressure approach is used on the marks by Holbrook. We have all heard his endless bragging and boasting about those 100s of successful projects, 50,000 jobs created and more yet Holbrook steadfastly refuses to supply a shred of evidence to support all these lofty claims. Then as we are seeing he makes vicious public attacks, lawsuit threats and hideous insults that are not in the least business like or remotely reasonable. No doubt Holbrook will be successful in generating an exponential increase in the complaints with his obvious talents!

Re: Don Allen Holbrook IEDC International Economic Development Council Rogue Member

hello to board! I found this by googling Don Holbrook's name as we just got back from Vegas. I had purchased the timeshare presentation package at a Bass Pro Shops and really was in it as needed an inexpensive place to stay for the long weekend. We heard the presentation at Bluegreen a week ago and the part with Don Holbrook was about a hour. There were two things I came away with - 1) he does have an engaging personality, especially if you are young or easily influenced, 2) by BS meter was in full swing with a lot of his stories AND his cheap shoes.

A few of the "facts" he gave us:
    1) Bluegreen resorts "saved his marriage" as he was so busy he didnt spend time with his wife (who is a tv reporter or some such famous/beautiful/fill in the blank woman) and now he owns a whole bunch of these weeks and travels all over the world and his kids have travelled all over the world (call me NOT impressed)
    2) he is "famous author" with a "team of writers" who work for him so he really doesnt have to do any work, they do it all. He had a book sitting there with his name on it called Next America. I looked up on Amazon and to ME it appears only 2 of the purchasers where "amazon verified" ie the others could be plants/friends - the first reviewer has NO other reviews on Amazon
    3) He is a "famous consultant" on fox news. Fair and balanced. Nuff said.
    4) He kept pushing the these components on a cheesy board he had created that said something like "family, romance" - dont remember last one. He said that the timeshare points could be used for trips to Europe, etc etc. From my research and experience, bluegreen is a new timeshare and really unless you live in the southeast, is not practical as there are pretty much NO properties west of the Mississipi
    5) He bragged about taking his wife all over Europe to write his new amazing book about the knights templar. Once again thanks to Amazon here is the link - note its 99 pages long and is only in a kindle version. He talked about having a writing team help him do this and travelling all over Europe to finish - really? 99 pages? I could do a 99 page book on the knights templar by tomorrow, or 99 pages on ANYTHING. This isnt a book, its a magazine. Here is link to Amazon - note no reviews:
The Knights Templar Uncloaked (Knights Templar Secrets): Don Holbrook: Amazon.com: Books
    6) He said that a "famous director in Hollywood" was going to pay him to do a movie on it (with 99 pages more like a short story) and that he "couldnt say who it was but one of his characters wanted to phone/go home". So Speilberg? really? And ET will make us know (a movie made over 30 years ago which is before about 30% of the audience was born)? not Schindlers list? or LINCOLN??? Award nominee this year? That was when my brain started turning off.

there was more self promotion and I have to say that compared to having to sit and have a sales person hammer you, I preferred this. Again I was able to tune off some of the annoying stuff.

I sincerely applaud the mom who started this thread and has spent time on exposing this person. I am the kind of person that believes that everyone especially those with young kids (oh yes, inferred that if not for Bluegreen his youngest would not have been born as he was the oops child - there is an image that I wont be able to get out of my mind ew). I hate to say but this is probably a good place for him as the sale of timeshares involves a high amount of BS and the ability to "sell snow to eskimos" as if you look on eBay you can basically buy the same properties they sell for around $30,000 for basically a dollar plus transfer fees - example:
Bluegreen Points Timeshare 11 000 Las Vegas Nevada Platinum Membership | eBay

you can also search if you log in completed listings on ebay - they sell for an average of under $500, some for as little as $1 (seriously ie 99 cent store timeshare). The one that sold for $2,750 is a platinum membership - put ebay item # 380526772771 into search and see what all the person got.

Again thanks - I am posting this so that if someone like me googles Don Holbrook and Bluegreen they can not only see the truth and your research but what the units TRUE value is as that is the bottom line for me. I hate that folks with not enough money are being talked into these. That is how they all end up on eBay - basically they are bought and resold with the sellers making money on the transfer, NOT on the price of the unit. Ie someone walked away and lost money.

will definately check back in here to see what our "old friend" is up to - if there are any televised appearances please post as I would LOVE to see that. take care and again thanks for your time and energy into all this research!

Welcome to the thread. This is hilarious! That Holbrook could sell used, unexploded Pintos to be sure!

Holbrook traveled all over the world on the taxpayers dime. The Earthquest destination theme park debacle had him touring the world with Frank McCrady and company compliments of unsuspecting taxpayers and his work on that boondoggle and accompanying charity funded his trip to Europe.

He has had different people over the years help him with his colossal flops. There is only a team of writers in his delusional fat head.

He has one and only one appearance in 2008 and they haven't asked that idiotic buffoon back:

Too bad the points can't fund a brain transplant for Holbrook!

There are a number of serious researchers out there with real books. National Geographic and the history Channel etc. have real documentaries. There is no market for his crap.

    Occasionally Nasty People Spout off

    Cyber Thugs

It never fails to amaze me how some people you don’t even know can make such hurtful comments about me. I recently read a blog comment regarding my professional speaking. Now, this blogger was commenting on another blogger’s blog, a known cyber thug and self-absorbed self-righteous social media paparazzi nut.
I read the blogger’s comments. What she said was hurtful and fairly ridiculous. She made assumptions and comments that clearly were unsubstantiated opinions without any actual basis in fact.
My speaking may be unconventional but my stories and parables are from my own real life experiences and based on truthful events from my life.
Just because others have had different experiences or haven’t had such experiences, does not make my own untrue or less meaningful.
I don’t get why some people take pleasure in hurting others? Could it be based on something that hurt them from their own childhood or their own failings or perhaps their own feelings of inadequacy?
This person even went as far to comment on my shoes… And she said they were cheap. Just goes to show how little some people know. My shoes are Italian Ferragamo’s and they cost about $700 a pair just to be factual.
She then mistakenly commented on my coffee table book, titled the “Theoretical History of the Knights Templar” as if I had portrayed that to be my soon to debut first fiction novel, which by the way is titled, “the 9th Templar.”
Obviously she doesn’t pay attention to facts. My other book was just a fact book from my research on the Templars. Wow I wish critics would get it right once in a while.
Facts are just too difficult to grasp I guess. The real facts are some people will find fault in everyone and anyone they disagree with. Their perspective is always slanted towards negativity and malicious intent. We can’t stop them from their vicious and hurtful comments, but it is good to look at their history of bashing other folks and just consider the lack of credibility of the source of such nasty people and come to your own conclusions.
As for my own life, I have sure never claimed to have made the best choices always in some matters, but I have never made any choices I am ashamed of. The global meltdown hurt many of us and I was no different than any other during that time. My own career went through dynamic change as most of our major projects failed to find capital, as did most of the real estate projects in our country. These failures were in no way attributable to my work or choices.
My hope is that people will take to heart the message I am discussing in my speeches. You can’t stop living during the chaos of the journey. There is never a perfect time to invest in your own better quality of life. Actions are what matter. Taking action to start today will in my opinion create a much happier and healthier quality of life for folks.
One thing I practice is that concept. Even while my own life went through economic upheaval, I continued to invest in my family, their vacations so we could remain close and have some fun. These cyber thugs blast me for this and for my continued investment in my family during these past economic hardships, but if you think about it, that is exactly what I discuss and recommend in my speeches. So, in fact I am practicing exactly what I advocate. I fail to see the fault in that platform.
In conclusion, I will never allow others to dictate my beliefs, determine my capabilities or constrain me from mine and my family’s choice to live a great quality of life.
Sir Gasbag has a wild imagination. I love his new title for me --- "a known cyber thug and self-absorbed self-righteous social media paparazzi nut." I am at your service scammer boy! Whilst screwing his creditors out of 2 million some odd dollars (1.29 million alone was attorney fees discharged in his 2007 chapter 7 bankruptcy,) he has been living the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

    Nixon Peabody LLP 7100-000 $1,290,143.00
    Nixon Peabody LLP
    100 Summer St.
    Boston, MA 02110
He is now wallowing in a chapter 11 bankruptcy, yet curiously has $35,000.00 a year for private school for his sons and can afford those pricey shoes to boot. He did tour Europe in 2009. I would bet it had nothing to do with his Blue Green ownership. I suspect the taxpayers of Texas funding his Earthquest perpetually stalled theme park / dino disaster and the defunct charity that he stuck for a whopping $185.00 an hour for his time funded his dream vacation. No doubt he has the receipts to prove that was thanks to Blue Green. I demand he publish them! Better yet he should sue everyone on the planet again so we have another crack at discovery. Then I can get them and publish them myself!

Holbrook spends like he is successful knowing he can't pay the bills. He must live in terror that wifey will hit the road if the gravy train ends. He has a great quality of life because he will do anything for a buck and doesn't care how many get burned in his dishonest deals. He is a master con artist who does a first rate job of selling his fantasized image of himself. He should never have bragged of 100s of successful projects that created 50,000 jobs without having that well and publicly documented. I am certainly not afraid to call his bluff!

The fact that Bluegreen allows that self-absorbed liar to peddle their product reflects very badly on them. My credibility is completely intact. Holbrook is the one who has been proven a liar countless times! Hang on to your pocket books and run!

    • Government Actions

On June 2, 2010 the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection reached a settlement with BlueGreen Corporation that addresses complaints about the company's alleged use of deceptive 'contests,' misleading sales presentations and improper contracts in the marketing and sale of timeshare vacation packages in Pennsylvania. The agreement, known as a Consent Decree, resolves a consumer protection lawsuit filed in October 2008 against BlueGreen Corporation, BlueGreen Resorts, BlueGreen Vacations Unlimited, Inc. and Great Vacations Destinations, Inc., all of Boca Raton, Florida. BlueGreen contacted consumers by phone and through kiosks at shopping malls, fairs, and festivals throughout Pennsylvania, along with the use of sales facilities in Hershey and King of Prussia. BlueGreen agreed to cancel contracts and pay refunds to consumers who filed valid complaints about their timeshare purchases. The complaints include consumers who were unable to use their timeshare, false promises about when or where consumers could travel and situations where timeshare purchasers did not receive extra services or discounts that were promised during the sales presentation. The settlement applies to complaints by Pennsylvania timeshare purchasers that have already been filed with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, along with any new complaints filed within the next 30 days. Some complaints filed with the Attorney General's Office involve consumers who spent between $20,000 and $40,000 on vacation packages they were unable to use. Part of the settlement could result in more than $1 million in refunds to consumers, depending on the total number of additional complaints we receive over the next 30 days.' The settlement also includes payments for consumers who were promised various 'free gifts,' including airline tickets, hotel accommodations, gas cards and other valuable prizes. BlueGreen will pay $125,000, which will be used to compensate people who were deceived about 'free' prizes. Consumers who filed valid complaints will get a check for the value of the item they were promised. The settlement includes a l reward for each consumer who filed a complaint about BlueGreen's use of telemarketing sales calls that violated Pennsylvania's 'Do Not Call' law. Under the provisions of the state's Do Not Call law, consumers can receive up to $100 when they file a complaint that results in a lawsuit or fines against a company charged with telemarketing violations. A total of 29 people filed Do Not Call complaints about improper BlueGreen calls and each of those consumers will be receiving a check for $100. BlueGreen has agreed to change its businesses practices to eliminate future confusion about consumer rights involving timeshare purchases, to stop using misleading advertisements about free gifts or prizes and to make certain that any future telemarketing calls fully comply with our Do Not Call law.' Consumers who have not yet filed complaints about being unable to use their BlueGreen timeshare or customers who were deceived about 'free gifts' and prizes have until June 24, 2010 to contact the Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection. Consumers who have already filed complaints with the Attorney General's Office, either before or after the initial lawsuit was filed in October 2008, do not need to take any further action to have their claims considered as part of this settlement. PENNSYLVANIA consumers with complaints can call the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Hotline, at 1-800-441-2555, or www.attorneygeneral.gov/complaints.aspx?id=451 The Consent Decree was filed in Commonwealth Court by Senior Deputy Attorney General David Sumner. BBB has determined this action is considered moderate as the action may cause reasonable consumers to question the ethics of business management or question their reliability in providing products or services.

Too bad the points can't fund a brain transplant for Holbrook!

There are a number of serious researchers out there with real books. National Geographic and the history Channel etc. have real documentaries. There is no market for his crap.

This is the only director Holbrook has named publicly and I contacted him. I bet he has dropped Holbrook like a hot potato! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Direc...ref=ts&fref=ts
With the exorbitant fees folks can hardly give those dang things away! Desperate owners will do anything to get out from under those gargantuan fees! Holbrook is non-stop ewwww moments!

Timeshares are one of the biggest frost out there. Just up Holbrook's alley.

Thanks for bringing Holbrook's presentation to life! Hilarious!!

re: Bluegreen Resorts Hires Don Allen Holbrook

Hi, folks. I'm new here, but I was drawn to the site while doing research about Don Holbrook and Bluegreen vacations. I had a narrow escape with these people over the weekend, but we got away without buying. After reading all the horror stories posted by other people, we are counting our lucky stars that we were capable of smelling B.S. when it was set before us.

Just a few minutes ago, I received a request for feedback from Bluegreen about our experience there. I couldn't help myself ... I let have it with both barrels. Part of the way through, I realized I needed to share that feedback with the readers of this site, with the hope that others looking for guidance can learn from our experience.

The first question on the survey was about how satisfied we were with our experience on Saturday on a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is extremely satisfied and 1 is extremely dissatisfied. I gave them a 1. Then I got this question:

What would it take to make you extremely satisfied with your sales presentation and tour experience?

Here's my response: You could start by getting rid of the lying ego-maniac who made the primary sales presentation. Let me be blunt: Mr. Don Holbrook is full of baloney. I smelled his B.S. the minute he opened his mouth. I must say, too, that as an educated person who actually earned his doctorate, I was offended that he would brag to us about being "a doctor" when in fact he bought his "degree" from a diploma mill. I was actually interested in Bluegreen until this gentleman began to fill us full of his crap. Five minutes into the sales pitch, I had him pegged as a hot-air balloon who doesn't lie unless he opens his mouth. Half-an-hour after that, I turned to my wife and said, "We're not buying a thing from these people," to which she replied, "No way!"

If Mr. Holbrook is everything he says he is and has done all that he claims to have done (author of best-selling books, financial adviser to the stars, etc.) I had to ask myself why he was giving sales presentations for a timeshare company. Mr. Holbrook's snake-oil salesman act encouraged us not only NOT to buy, but to do additional research on Bluegreen and its thousands of dissatisfied customers. How you folks have avoided a major class-action lawsuit is a mystery.

I guess I should actually thank ol' Don, though. I feel blessed that he laid it on so thick. Otherwise, I might have been roped in and bought a timeshare from a company with a reputation for high-pressure sales and not delivering on its promises. So, you want to make me extremely satisfied? Never to contact me again about ANYTHING. Based on everything I heard and saw there -- from Mr. Holbrook and his ego-mania to the predatory high-pressure sales approaches that sold vacation packages to poor people who could not afford them -- you folks are little more than lying, thieving crooks masquerading as a legitimate business. I want nothing more to do with you.

There ... is that frank enough for you?

Later, they asked, Why do you believe the length of the overall experience was not appropriate?

My answer: We were told it would be 90 minutes to two hours. We were there for almost four hours. When George could not make the sale, he kept bringing in another closer. I told George not to waste his or our time; we weren't going to change our minds. On one occasion, George flat out lied to us. We said we'd like to get going. He said he did not know how to release us and provide our incentive gift, and only that his manager (the closer) could do that. However, when the closer realized he was wasting his time, too, he got up and walked away. George was pissed at us and said, "Okay, come with me to gifting." We followed him, he signed our paperwork, and we received the incentive. So he DID know how it all worked, but he wanted the closer to get one last crack at us. We were there an extra 30 minutes because the closer was busy with so many other people. For a company whose representatives say, "We're not about high-pressure sales tactics; we don't do that," we sure got a heavy-handed sales approach, and it kept us there a lot longer than you promised."

A bit later, they asked, What could we have done differently to have you purchase a Bluegreen Vacation Ownership?

My reply: You might have done two things differently. First, you shouldn't have hired an ego-maniac charlatan to give your primary sales presentation. Mr. Holbrook made me suspicious to the point that I used my smart phone to go online and check him out during the presentation. At that point, my wife and I began to realize that your company has a reputation for screwing its vacation owners sideways up the wazoo. And that's the second thing you might have done differently: You might have been honest with your customers and addressed their realistic concerns. You see, when there are a few stray complaints here and there, well, that's just part of doing business. However, when there are literally thousands of complaints across the spectrum of consumer-protection and fraud-awareness websites, and they all say pretty much the same thing, that tends to run the red flag up the pole.

It's too late to sell me anything, but what can you do for the next potential customer? Stop all the high-pressure sales pitches. Refund the money of dissatisfied customers. Stop lying to people to get them to buy. And most of all, stop preying on poor people and old folks. My wife and I are both professional people. Combined, we have a significant annual income. We could have afforded the down payment, and we could have afforded the $538 monthly payments. However, as we watched some of the poor ignorant folks who rang the bell after being sold vacation packages we KNOW they will not be able to afford, we shook our heads and wondered . . . who sells someone a package like this that they cannot afford? Your sales force has to know that, after these poor folks have been bled dry of every spare nickel they can scrape together, they'll end up in foreclosure anyway, and this deal will likely to ruin their credit forever -- or at least for a damn long time. Who does this? Only a heartless whore. From everything I saw last weekend and everything I've read, that's Bluegreen Vacations ... a heartless whore of a company run by thieves and charlatans.

At the end, the survey invited more feedback: Please share any additional comments with us regarding your likelihood to recommend Bluegreen.

Here's what I wrote: I've already made it my business to email all friends, neighbors, and family members in the address books of three email accounts (one personal, two professional) and warned them to run for their lives if anyone from Bluegreen Vacations gets anywhere near them. I guess that's a form of recommendation, isn't it? Just not the kind you sought.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

Hiya, utah_ref and welcome to REALSCAM.com

Unfortunately, your story is all too common in parts of the timeshare "industry" if you can call a loosely connected bunch of sharks and wolves an "industry"

How would you like to be someone who genuinely believes in the benefits of time sharing, when stories such as yours are becoming increasingly the "norm" ??

Thousands of International travelers, particularly from the US and Canada, have fallen victims of timeshare fraud while vacationing. Resort developers hire skilled salesmen to represent their timeshares as many different attractive packages, such as financial investments, deeded properties, or vacation clubs, just to increase their sales.

When all his lawsuit threats and attacks failed to silence me, Don Allen Holbrook resorted to very thinly veiled death threats:

Why is this dishonest and dangerous man doing presentations for Bluegreen?

re: Bluegreen Resorts Hires Don Allen Holbrook

Hobrook is calling himself Leon McCrady and discussing getting forced out of the International Economic Development Council and his bogus business failing in his latest self-published rant, Soapbox-Momster: Cyber Stalked of the Abyss.

Bluegreen has this exceedingly dangerous and dishonest man as a speaker. He is a failed Economic Developer. He has been mired in controversy. He had acrimonious departures as he was fired from 2 economic developer positions and not renewed for a third. He sued the first entity that fired him and threatened the second.

Holbrook declared a chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2007 and wrote off almost 2 million including 1.29 million in attorney fees. He declared bankruptcy again in 2011 while continuing to live like royalty.

He hasn't had a project come to fruition in over a decade though he has lied and claimed hundreds of successful projects worth billions that created 50,000 jobs that he worked on. In reality he sat on the board of a small business loan operation and approved loans for things he had no involvement in whatsoever.

He has been sued in Ohio for his economic development work. In that suit Holbrook dragged in numerous newspapers, reporters, taxpayers (commenting on the waste of tax dollars Holbrook was involved in) and me. He was tossed out of court in record time.

He was the consultant with a hand in very pie for Earthquest billion dollar theme park that was to be built north of Houston, but is only on paper. He was paid by the originator of the concept, the developer, the designer, the East Montgomery County Improvement district, Baker Leisure Group, the phony charity set up (he was the CEO for a charity that was to promote the for profit theme park --totally unethical) and more. He and his LLCs walked away with more than 1.2 million dollars and then right into bankruptcy he went.

In addition to Ohio running him out, Pahrump, NV did as well. All the other ecomonic developer jobs he has bragged of for the past decade are apparently fiction.

He is the best reason to avoid Bluegreen like the plague. His book is an incredibly boring autobiographical diatribe about his failures and personal problems melded with a death threat against me and the story of my murder that he thinks he can couch as fiction. It is very factual and he is selling it as a biography and true crime book online as an e-book.

This guy is clearly unhinged. This guy has been threatening and attacking people online for years. He has publicly berated taxpayers and those attending his lie-filled sales presentations for Bluegreen.
