Positive Expectancy
Nehemiah 4
Here is a perspective that eludes MP’s (Most People) - one of the secrets that highly successful people possess. It is a powerful nuance overlooked by the masses. That nuance is:
“positive expectancy” - constantly finding an accomplishment(s) to look forward to and working with that object firmly in mind. If you want to be more successful than you’ve been in the past, this single ingredient can truly make the difference. In fact, it is imperative that you put your mind in this mode
all the time. You can’t let your guard drop regarding this single, extremely important and empowering thought pattern. You’ve got to maintain “positive expectancy,” and stay deeply committed to it. You cannot deviate from that commitment in the slightest. You’ve got to be on top of this single concept every day, every week, every year – for years, and back it up with action.
I had a dream that Jack Weinzierl, the top producer at Advantage Conferences, was casually mentioning to those around him the names of the Candidates who were coming into his business. In my dream, he was confident and excited. The fact is, my dream is more than a dream – it is his actual reality –
the way he lives his life. He’s done that when he made $97,000.00 in one month (July of 2005), and he’s done the same thing when he only made a couple thousand in a single month (which is not often). Jack always has “positive expectancy.” It’s
a decision and he sticks to that powerful, little thought-about choice.
I, also, think in those same terms, partly due to that being my natural temperament and partly due to practicing and disciplining my mind to think that way. I constantly think about the power of the future and the multitudinous factors that are fomenting and congealing as we speak that ARE making that future even better than ever. I envision highly talented Candidates who today will receive a communication from me, or will heed an outside stimulus in their environment independent of me, that will help them develop their thinking to the point of action. That single message will help them make a positive decision to move forward, working with me in actualizing the vision of delivering
Christ-centered Mindset MentoringSM to the world. Their involvement will be greatly to their benefit as well. Most importantly, the synergistic efforts by all of us will also greatly benefit those who will be impacted by our message and movement.
This is not Pollyanna thinking. If you remember the movie, Pollyanna tended to have a mindset of total positivity that Most People (MP’s) can’t understand. Anything people can’t understand they tend to derogate and put down. This phenomenon is nothing more than ignorance and prejudice. What the naysayers think is that totally positive people tend to be stupidly unaware of negative elements and obstacles that are part of their environment. Actually, Pollyanna was smarter than they were, and at the same time she was well aware of extenuating circumstances, obstacles and barriers. We certainly are as well. We simply
choose not to let those negatives be the guide. God’s power and our Holy Spirit led choices are our determining factors. That’s why the future is so incredibly exciting!
In spite of those seeming “negative” things that you and I face, “positive expectancy” negates the negative. Two negatives make a positive in math and they do in life. Champions make the conscious decision that a positive reality will indeed manifest – and we have total control over whether we think this way or not. It’s our
disciplined thinking that allows the positive which God intended for us all along to be truly made manifest in our life.
Is there an enemy? Yes! In fact, the more “good” you do in life, the more opposition you will face. Combine that with standing up boldly for Jesus Christ and you’ll be sure to attract kooks and krazies from all over the place. I attempt to structure my life around several key scriptures that have had a major impact on me, one of which is Luke 12:8 – “I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God.” When you do that you’re obviously doing the right thing, and you’ll also open the door for trouble – so be it.
Worst Enemy?
There are indeed enemies and powerful obstacle ahead of you and ahead of others. I see most of those enemies with perfect clarity. Amazingly, the greatest enemy is
our own attitude – and especially our propensity to vividly imagine:
·
lesser, rather than greater
·
scarcity, rather than abundance
·
finite even though the “Infinite” (God) is at work
We constantly bow down at the altar of fear,
rather than responding to the reality
that Almighty God is in charge
The thing that adults tend to hang onto more than anything else is a non-imaginative perspective that refuses to allow the idea of good things happening. Outside obstacles, including other people who choose to be our enemies – those things will change, but choosing to think with positivity and enthusiasm about the future is much more accurate. This kind of thinking will prevail, and it will lead to eventual accomplishment.
It’s time to wake up to the fact that
your imaginative mind is capable of conceiving fantastic concepts about the future that can and will indeed occur. Your vision should be alive and bold – not just barely breathing on life-support. No, it should be your driver, and you’ve got to protect it and feed it daily.
Listen to how one of my Mentors, famed marketing guru,
Dan Kennedy, speaks to his constituents. He’s blunt. He hits them right between the eyes. He doesn’t avoid subjects that most people avoid. He tells it like it is. He talks about attitude all the time, and he’s right on target.
“In every business or sales field, there are people making high 6 figure and 7 figure incomes while thousands and thousands of others come and go through the very same business, start and quit, often within the same year, and spend their lives hopping from one unsuccessful endeavor to another like fleas hopping from one passing dog to the next….”
“Personally, I figured out early in life you never win by quitting.”
“Former Minnesota Vikings all-star quarterback Fran Tarkenton, with whom I’ve worked on occasion, tells his story of doing so badly with the Vikings he left the team and skipped practices and decided to quit. When Coach Bud Grant finally got to him, Fran told Coach Grant that he hated being booed by the hometown fans, was weary of the media criticism, didn’t feel he was helping the team, and wanted to quit. “Fran, everybody wants to quit. It’s okay to want to quit,” Grant told him. “It’s just not okay to quit.”
Most People quit on their dreams. Their imagination fails them. They let go of positive expectancy and allow negative expectations to pour water on their fire. Stand up. Be strong. Be courageous. Listen to God’s voice telling you what to do. Defend your vision. Enunciate your vision. See the success. Feel the success. Don’t be afraid of obstacles or enemies. Eat their lunch instead of letting them eat your lunch. Your lunch is not for sale – no way, no how.
My friend, it is the intangible will to win that allow us to actually win. You’ve got to see the win. See the victory. It is a mature,
positive expectancy amidst diverse obstacles that penetrates the barriers to success and takes you to the Champion’s seat of accomplishment.
