Change in Privacy Policy at Freelancer:

    By saji90

I am writing this because I am shocked by the new policy of the freelancer.com, and because of that, the employers are forced to post their tricks and business secrets in their message boards, where their faceless staffs are constantly sniffing. So before posting any confidential information please understand that your business secrets can be compromised at any time and you will never know who has stolen your ideas and invention . Read below if you want to know how. I have contacted them but it looks like they do not not give a heck about your business or its secret.

    Parts from thier final reply:

In relation to the correspondence of each party (employer and freelancer) through Private Message Board, only authorized Freelancer.com staff has the access on it. These correspondence will be automatically recorded on our Messaging Board for future reference.

So if you have a billion dollar idea you can confidently post it there as freelancer management is sure that their all staffs are honest and truthful :) . Millions of shareholders also thought about the founder of sathyam computers in India. Any way all the best.
May be soon google, yahoo and msn will send you a same message that their authorized representative (only) will look to your email :)

Freelancer.com Scam – Part I : How $10 cost me $14000 – Among other misgivings and apathy of Freelancer.com Staff | Jumbled Mumbling & Fumbled Rumbling

epal on February 11, 2013 at 9:29 AM said:

They did something similar to me on april 2012, I had about USD 2500 from a project I had been working on very hard since january 2012.
I’m from Argentina and USD 2500 is a lot in my country.
Then my account and my employers account were both suspended. I had been a user of the site since 2006, with a considerable amount of good reviews and lot of succesfuly finished projects!
I sent all my documentation and photos they requested, but my employer didn’t want to send the documentation because he didn’t trust the site (who could blame him).
I started posting my case everywhere I could and I threatened them with legal action, my employer also helped me and sent very bold e-mails to their support system too. We finally, after more than one month, got to revert the payment to the client and revert the fees, and the client payed me by other means. I haven’t used freelancer.com since then.
I see that you joined the site on november 2012, if you had read my posts before you’d have been warned!!
Freelancer.com was a good site before 2009 when it was run by a swedish company.
When Matt Barrie bought it he immediately added new fees and rose those that existed. He also began to buy competing companies so you didn’t have other sites to chose.
The swedish site and logo were unattractive but I didn’t really care, it was super legit and trustable.
Now it is pure marketing crap and they don’t respect your work and your hard earned money.
How can you work on a site that doesn’t respect money earned from your hard work? I will never use freelancer.com again.
So my advice is, before compromising work or money check a lot first !!

    Re: Freelancer - Warning!! Ripoff!

More complaints on freelancer and Matt Barrie:

    2/18/13

They do everything possible to prevent you from getting money and taking more money from you. Their customer support is more like customer harassment. I have switched to oDesk after losing $600 to freelancer. Stay away. Bad news.
Freelancer.com Reviews | SiteJabber Consumer Reviews of Websites

    Freelancer.com review
Since freelancer.com is getting to be the exclusive online freelancing marketplace, it has acquired lots of competing websites over the years. But is freelancer.com worth time to be spent on, or should we stay away?
    Aggressive SEO
The site is 'infecting' Google's search result pages by letting search queries be indexed. This results in enormous web spam. Freelancers can't actually find what they are looking for, but get a tricky redirection to freelancer.com marketpace, where they face jobs not matching their interest.
    Money, money, money
Every exam taken on freelancer.com costs real money. Cash, that won't come back in any way, even if they push labels in your face showing "You will be 204% more likely to get this job with this exam.". It is so disgusting, that once I felt into their trap. Since I had had my PayPal account linked, I could accidentally click a link in one of their newsletters which instantly pulled money from my account (for an exam fee). They also charge a fee for every successful job done, and some extras for bid highlighting and more, which are almost required to get a job. Unless having your bid on the first place glowing in yellow and owning 20 badges beneath your name (which costs more than $100), you can't even get a single data entry job. That's the mentality!
    The scam rate is high
Despite freelancer.com undoubtly has the most jobs for online freelancers, lots of the employers want you to work for free. Especially at lower-paid jobs, there is a tendency, that they ask you to start working before getting hired, which is against the Terms of Service - but lots do it. Then the offer get cancelled, and every track disappears.

Maybe some of these people will come in and elaborate on these complaints.

    Re: Freelancer - Warning!! Ripoff!

This is just in, March 1, 2003!!

Freelancer.com Scam – Sign an Online Petition – Let’s Put this to an End !!!

    Fellow Freelancers and Employers

Some of my related posts on this topic are:-

    1.) Freelancer.com Scam – Part I : How $10 cost me $14000

    2.) Freelancer.com Scam – Part II : Scam Employers

In my research over the past few months, I have come across a lot of circumstances where Freelancer.com has banned user accounts containing significant amounts of money and despite repeated efforts has not bothered to either refund the money or reopen the accounts. The money which present in the accounts is conveniently forgotten and this in itself is blatantly illegal and morally wrong.

I have tried my best to elicit a response from the site but they are almost hellbent on not returning my $ 14,000. I am sure there are many more like me who have suffered due to this scam that the firm is running.

To take this one step further, I would like to ask very one who has been in any way wronged by this website to please sign this ONLINE PETITION (Opens in a New Tab/Window) so that we can get the attention of the Australian Government and coax them to shut down this enterprise or at least force them to return the hard earned money of their users.

Please join me in signing this petition and starting an online movement to make sure that justice is delivered to the people who have lost their money and in many cases their sole source of livelihood.

Our movement is not only for the money that has been lost, it is also a statement against all such people who scam the innocent and then use arm twisting techniques to make sure that they are left with no strength to even ask for their money to be returned to their accounts.

    Looking forward to your support.

    Best Regards

    The Eccentric Blogger

I say this is GREAT news for all people who have been scammed by this company to take part and get something done!! Way to go The Eccentric Blogger!!!

I have suspicians about their exams too; when you fail an exam you get a list of the questions you got wrong at the end, I was certain I had answered more than one of these correctly, for instance 'what does MIME stand for'? I answered Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions, which is correct, yet it was marked incorrect.

    Hi Ginola,

Thank you for raising the issue about the exams.

I would like to personally look into that. If you don't mind, please you shoot me a message at support@freelancer.com with the exams you found to have some errors as you say. When you send an email, please put my name on the title so I would easily get it.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Cheers,
    Jenna

Again, since I woke up in a good mood this morning allow me to chime in Jenna. This is the crap that every corrupt company under the sun does on every internet page they can find. Pretend to care, email me, no promises, blah blah blah. People are f'ing sick of it. Freelancer not only threatened people with legal actions, they have exposed in a personal way people who have complained about not being paid. No legitimate business acts that way.

You seriously want to fix problems???????? Seriously, then set up a dedicated email direct to you. A phone number direct to you. Start paying people right now, as in today. Quit playing games today. Plan on 80 or 90 hour weeks for the next year fixing this mess. If freelancer has to reach in to their own bank accounts at a loss to make things right, so be it that is the price you pay for screwing people over for years on end.

When you have completed that, then come back and let us know your progress. Until then I consider your very being here insulting to all the people who are owed money.

I have been trying to find where one person posted a conversation they had with freelancer.com customer service but have not been able to find it again today. At any rate, it was ridiculous and that is why we have started referring to them as 'robots' all the answers are repeated phrases that mean absolutely nothing.

    Hi honestme,

I started Warrior Forum back in 1997 with the goal of creating a community of like minded internet marketers to share ideas, learn from each other and build their online empires. In 17 years I am proud to say that our community has grown to over 732,000 members strong, making us the world’s largest internet marketing forum.

Today I am happy to announce that Warrior Forum will become part of the Freelancer.com family. I’ve spent a long time thinking about what the best next step should be and I feel certain that Freelancer.com will be able to provide Warrior Forum with the resources, energy and time required to continue the community and improve it to make it even bigger and better.

Freelancer.com is the world’s largest outsourcing and freelancing marketplace with a community of over 10.8 million skilled professionals from all over the globe. They are growing quickly and have participated in forums just like you and I.

Warrior Forum will remain independent to Freelancer.com and will have a separate dedicated team to better support you. I know they are excited to be joining our great community and will be working alongside us to take Warrior Forum to the next level. You’ll receive an introduction email from Freelancer.com shortly.

While trying to edit the above post, I had some problems. My browser changed to inprivate and I could not make the changes. One of the links I had included has been deleted but I could not edit the post and I tried 2 different browsers. I finally turned off my computer, it made some updates and rebooted. It was one of those mysterious moments that happen online and I am not sure what happened! At any rate I was able to come back and delete the link that seemed to cause the problem. It has been my experience since having learned of freelancer dot com and supporting some of those who have made complaints that indeed mysterious things do happen when you even mention anything against them. Is Big Daddy watching??

    Re: Freelancer - Warning!! Ripoff!

Thanks for posting JTMT, I got another one today from the big guy himself. Does anyone know what is going on with this??

    Hi honestme,

This is Matt Barrie, Chief Executive of Freelancer.com.

I am pleased to announce that Warrior Forum has joined the Freelancer family.

We are excited and looking forward to working with you to better support the community.

Allen Says founded Warrior Forum in 1997 and I’ve personally watched the community grow to over 730,000 members, becoming the world’s largest Internet marketing forum.

If you haven’t visited the forum in a while make sure you check out all the improvements that have been made at WarriorForum - Internet Marketing Forums!

We will be allocating substantial resources to further grow the site. We will be dedicating engineers to build features and customer experience specialists to interact with the community in order to understand intimately what you like. They’ll be working closely with the moderators moving forward.

The most important thing, however, is that we listen to you- the community. We’ll be going through the suggestions section and would love to hear more about your ideas and feedback.

Also please feel free to email me at matt@freelancer.com with any suggestions, ideas, and thoughts or just to touch base and introduce yourself.

Effective immediately we are making a few permanent improvements to pricing:
    * All WSO listings will now be reduced from $40 to $20
    * All War Room members will have their 20 year membership extended to lifetime, immediately. Moving forward new memberships will be $20 per year.

Thank you for your support of Warrior Forum in the past and I look forward to working with you to take Warrior Forum to the next phase!

    Regards,
    Matt Barrie

The person on FB claims female gender but it is the real Matt Barrie of Freelancer.com. The magazine cover is photoshopped but I cannot verify if it is a legit magazine or not. Anyone else know? This guy is a real rich loser.

How do you think he would do in a courtroom defending his activities with freelancer.com?? Oh course they have the high-powered attorneys to represent him and I know nothing of Australian law. He has sent out letters and emails of Cease and Desist to several people complaining about the company. They are being threatened.
I clinked on the link above to see if they still worked and the first goes to a different timeline. How???? Some strange things happen when people have heavy-handed influence...

Thanks Whip, I suppose the extension no longer exists so it just takes a person to their own FB page. I did not find Matt / Matthew Barrie in FB when I searched yesterday, he must have gone deeper.

There is something strange (not right) going on with freelancer and I may be checked out of this world by the time it is disclosed but it will happen.

The above link is not available any longer. WordPress was just too much for me and I got tired of fighting with it, so I removed my blog. The Eccentric Blogger is still operating but I have no idea who the person is behind it but it is not me. I hope the people commenting there and the owner will receive compensation for work done for freelancer, or at least through freelancer.
