Donald Trump with Michael Sexton, President of Trump University. Fashion designer Tarla Makaeff filed a law suit against Trump U. after taking seminars that taught her little about real estate.

The No. 1 lesson students learn at Donald Trump's online business program is How To Max Out Credit Cards 101, a new lawsuit charges.

A California businesswoman says that lured by the Trump name, she took bogus seminars at Trump University that destroyed her credit - and taught her almost nothing about real estate.
Fashion designer Tarla Makaeff filed a class-action suit claiming she was guaranteed a one-year apprenticeship - and a personal real estate mentor that would be the "next best thing to being Donald Trump's next 'Apprentice.'"

Instead, she got a half-day trip to a Home Depot to examine supplies for fixing up foreclosed homes - plus mentors who pushed self-serving deals, then disappeared and failed to return calls, she says in court papers.

Makaeff's suit comes with "Trump University" already under fire from the state Education Department, which is demanding the program immediately stop calling itself a university in violation of state education law.

Makaeff says she lost $80,000, including $34,995 for a "Trump Gold Elite membership." She was whacked on interest, financing, late fees, penalties and expenses.

"I relied on the Trump name and Donald Trump's reputation as a real estate mogul," she told the Daily News. "I expected nothing less than the best. ... Big mistake."

The for-profit, nonaccredited school, founded by Trump in 2005, denies the charges:
"This lawsuit is completely without merit. We will vigorously defend our brand, our services, our company, our reputation and our integrity," said Trump U. President Michael Sexton.
The suit, filed in federal court in San Diego, doesn't name Donald Trump personally.
Sexton said Makaeff "consumed all the services she purchased" and declared herself satisfied in a videotaped testimonial.

Speaking of credit cards . . .

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/donald-trumps-hotel-collection-under-193637143.html

Real estate developer Donald Trump's string of luxury hotel properties, The Trump Hotel Collection, could be the latest victim of credit card breach, KrebsonSecurity reported, citing data shared by several U.S.-based banks.

Sources at the U.S. banks traced a pattern of fraudulent debit and credit card charges to accounts that had all been used at Trump hotels, the cyber crime and internet security blog said.

Credit card data at various Trump properties in the United States, including those in Chicago, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami and New York, could have been compromised, according to the report.

The attack "appears to extend back to at least February," the blog said.

I am absolutely delighted that there are people acting against unscrupulous money grabbers who call their training programs "universities." If they are prepared to take action against an outfit bearing the Trump name, then scammers who use this ruse should be deterred.

I love this quote from post 1 of this thread..

With all of the money that Trump claims he has, one would think that spending several million dollars on anything would not be a big deal.

So why doesn't he give refunds to the people who went to his fake university? He doesn't need to keep their money.

The man really disgusts me.

February 19 at 3:17pm ·
Grobanites for Obama (www.facebook.com/Grobanites-for-President-Obama (https://www.facebook.com/Grobanites-for-President-Obama)) knocked this one out of the park!
PROOF (with links):
TRUMP AIRLINES - In October 1988, Donald Trump threw his wallet into the airline business by purchasing Eastern Air Shuttle, a service that for 27 years had run hourly flights between Boston, New York City and Washington, D.C. For roughly $365 million, Trump got a fleet of 17 Boeing 727s, landing facilities in each of the three cities and the right to paint his name on an airplane. But his gamble was a bust. A lack of increased interest from customers combined with high pre–Gulf War fuel prices meant the shuttle never turned a profit. The high debt forced Trump to default on his loans, and ownership of the company was turned over to creditors. The Trump Shuttle ceased to exist in 1992.
TRUMP CASINOS - Donald Trump's gambles don't always go as planned. Especially when that gamble is gambling itself. In February 2009, Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the third time in a row — an extremely rare feat in American business. The casino company, founded in the 1980s, runs the Taj Mahal, the Trump Plaza and the Trump Marina. Trump defended himself by distancing himself from the company, though he owned 28% of its stock. "Other than the fact that it has my name on it — which I'm not thrilled about — I have nothing to do with the company," he said. He resigned from Trump Entertainment soon after that third filing, but in August of that year he, and an affiliate of Beal Bank Nevada, agreed to buy the company for $100 million.
TRUMP MARRIAGES - Donald Trump's life in the bedroom has been messy at best. The real estate magnate married his first wife, Ivana, in 1977, but things got rocky after Trump's affair with actress Marla Maples surfaced in New York City tabloids. "You bitch, leave my husband alone!" Ivana told Maples on a ski trip in Aspen, Colo. Ivana's warning fell on deaf ears, and in 1992, Trump left her with a reported $25 million settlement and married his mistress one year later. His marriage to Maples was even shorter-lived, and the couple divorced in 1999. These days, Trump is married to Slovenian supermodel Melania Knauss.
TRUMP MORTGAGE - In April 2006, Trump announced that, after years in the real estate business, he was launching a mortgage company. He held a glitzy press conference at which his son Donald Jr. predicted that Trump Mortgage would soon be the nation's No. 1 home-loan lender. Trump told CNBC, "Who knows more about financing than me?" Apparently, plenty. Within a year and a half, Trump Mortgage had closed shop. The would-be lending powerhouse was done in by timing (the housing market cratered in 2007) and ironically enough, given Trump's Apprentice TV show, poor hiring. The executive Trump selected to run his loan company, E.J. Ridings, claimed to have been a top executive at a prestigious investment bank. In reality, Ridings' highest role on Wall Street was as a registered broker, a position he held for a mere six days.
TRUMP UNIVERSITY - They hoped to get rich off real estate, so they enrolled in Donald Trump’s University to learn the tricks of the trade, some of them maxing out their credit cards to pay tens of thousands of dollars for insider knowledge they believed could make them wealthy.
Do you remember Trump University? Probably not — founded in 2005, it didn’t really catch on. And one big reason it didn’t catch on is because it was a total scam, say former students in complaints that were filed to the Federal Trade Commission and were unearthed by a Freedom of Information Act recently requested by Gizmodo.
“I want my $35,000+ back. All I got was books that I could have gotten from the library that could guide me better then Trump’s class did." Another grievance describes a strategy reminiscent of Scientology. After paying $1,495 for a three-day seminar, which provided information freely available on Zillow, “attendees were told that unless they purchased additional products (software; individual coaching) they would not succeed,” the complaint states.
In 2013, the New York Attorney General’s office filed a $40 million lawsuit against the former reality star and current Republican presidential candidate for failing to impart the promised real estate education on 5,000 students and subjecting prospective students to high-pressure sales tactics. In April 2015, a judge ruled that Trump was indeed personally responsible and that the matter would go to trial. A class-action suit against Trump related to Trump University is also pending.
TRUMP VODKA - Trump vodka was introduced in 2006 to much fanfare. At the time, Trump predicted the T&T (Trump and Tonic) would become the most requested drink in America. On Larry King Live, he said he got into the vodka business to outdo his friends at Grey Goose. Ten years later, Grey Goose is still on top shelves throughout the country. As for Trump vodka? Yeah, we'd never heard of it either. The New York City blog Gothamist reported the vodka stopped production "because the company failed to meet the threshold requirements." In 2011, Trump's company filed an injunction to prevent an ISRAELI company from selling Trump vodka without his consent or authorization. Meaning the Donald stopped the only people in world who wanted to drink his vodka from doing so.
CHINA CONNECTION - "The problem with our country is we don't manufacture anything anymore," Donald Trump told Fox News recently. "The stuff that's been sent over from China," he complained, "falls apart after a year and a half. It's crap." That very same Donald Trump has his own line of clothing, and it's made in ... China. (OK, OK — not all of it. Salon, which reported this intriguing, head-scratching fact, notes that some of his apparel is from MEXICO and Bangladesh.)
BANKRUPTCIES - Donald Trump brags about how well his businesses have fared. Yet, no major U.S. company has filed for Chapter 11 more than Trump's casino empire in the last 30 years
.
In 1990, the banking institutions that backed his real estate investments had to bail him out with a $65 million "rescue package" that contained new loans and credit. But it wasn't enough, and in 1991 the famous developer was nearly $4 billion in debt and his famous Taj Mahal casino had to file bankruptcy, [with another bankruptcy for Trump Castle Associates being filed in 1992*]. Trump's economic troubles continued through the '90s, while he was personally leveraged to nearly $1 billion. In 2004, Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts also filed for bankruptcy. In 2009, the same company (by then renamed Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc.) filed for bankruptcy again.

It must be illegal or immoral to call corporate training centres like Trumpsville a University in the US. Please correct me if I am wrong. It strikes me as being almost as ridiculous to call Trump's brainwashing academy a University as it is to call McDonald's training Hamburger University (http://www.aboutmcdonalds.com/mcd/corporate_careers/training_and_development/hamburger_university.html).

The No. 1 lesson students learn at Donald Trump's online business program is How To Max Out Credit Cards 101, a new lawsuit charges.

Lesson number 2, maybe Donald is such a brilliant business mind. (Its a bit difficult to determine how much value Trump added to the roughly $40,000,000 he got from his father hence several calculations and two points of view) Nor is it clear how much Trump is really worth, publications like Forbes have consistently estimated half of what he claims. The massive leverage Trump employed does not appear to have made much sense considering the S&P 500 is unlevered and requires no effort.

We can be certain most Trump U students aren't starting with such a war chest.

The math

Imagine Trump had retired in 1982, sold his real estate holdings and invested his $500 million in the S&P 500 — that is, 500 stocks representing the American stock market.

From 1982 through the end of 2014, the S&P 500 index had an annualized return, including reinvested dividends, of 11.86 percent, according to MoneyChimp’s S&P 500 Compound Annual Growth Rate calculator.

Per this calculator, every dollar invested in January 1982 would have been worth $40 by December of 2014. That means Trump’s initial $500 million would have grown to $20 billion. That’s twice what Trump says he’s worth today.

Trump Worth $10 Billion Less Than If He’d Simply Invested in Index Funds | Money Talks News (http://www.moneytalksnews.com/why-youre-probably-better-investing-than-donald-trump/)

http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2015/dec/09/occupy-democrats/occupy-democrats-say-simple-investment-trumps-fath/

Running the numbers

Even if the underlying assumptions are dodgy, the math at least is in the ballpark.

We used $40 million as the starting point for 1974. Honghui Chen, associate professor of finance at the University of Central Florida, told us the account would have grown to $3.94 billion by November 2015 if the money had followed the S&P 500 index and all dividends had been reinvested.

Our ruling

Occupy Democrats shared an image that said if Trump had taken the money he got from his father and simply put it in a fund that tracked the S&P 500, he’d have $8 billion today. While it's true that Trump got a leg up from his father on the order of many tens of millions of dollars, this specific claim suffers from a key flaw.

The only way to hit the $8 billion mark is to start with $200 million in 1982, and it's wrong to say that was Trump's father's money. While the father's business put Trump on the path to have $200 million in 1982, Trump himself had been running the company for eight years.

We rate this claim False.

So, let's see.

According to that graphic Trump has had 11 failures.

Hmmmm.....

Babe Ruth is famous for his past home run record, but for decades he also held the record for strikeouts. He hit 714 home runs and struck out 1,330 times in his career (about which he said, "Every strike brings me closer to the next home run.").

Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor because "he lacked imagination and had no good ideas." He went bankrupt several times before he built Disneyland. In fact, the proposed park was rejected by the city of Anaheim on the grounds that it would only attract riffraff.

Henry Ford failed and went broke five times before he succeeded.

R. H. Macy failed seven times before his store in New York City caught on.

Thomas Edison's teachers said he was "too stupid to learn anything." He was fired from his first two jobs for being "non-productive." As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, "How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?" Edison replied, "I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps."

So Trump has had 11 failures?

Seems to me he's in a pretty exclusive crowd. Just about every very successful person we know of has failed at some point in time. Only instead of bemoaning the fact, they picked themselves up, and tried again.

"Failing is one of the greatest arts in the world. One fails toward success." ~ Charles Kettering
"Failure provides the opportunity to begin again, more intelligently." ~ Henry Ford
"The fastest way to succeed is to double your failure rate." ~ Thomas Watson Sr.

"Only those who dare to fail greatly can achieve greatly."
~ Robert F. Kennedy

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career.
I've lost almost 300 games
26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot ... and missed.
I've failed over and over and over again in my life. That is why I succeed."

The reason forums like this exist is because of people like you that are content to wash dishes their whole life, buy lottery tickets and fall for the latest "get rich" scheme. Instead of getting off your fat ass and doing something useful with your life, you expect the gov't to provide for you from cradle to grave. When somebody actually steps up to the plate and accomplishes something with their life, you find it more convenient to trash them instead of congratulating them. Right. Well, that seems a bit harsh and unnecessary.

Here you go....congrats to Trump on the success he's had with his legitimate businesses. Good for him.

However, your "reasons forums like this exist" statement is incomplete.

Forums like this also exist because the scammers of the world are more than willing to pray on the type of people you just criticized. And while they're busy stealing money from people you obviously think deserve to lose it, they also are more than willing to steal from people who may simply be naive or desperate. Perhaps that's okay too in your opinion.

Trump obviously didn't need to align himself with a pyramid scam like ACN or put himself in the same category as all of the other late night infomercial dirtbags with his Trump University scam, but he did.

Those two things alone should have been enough to keep him from getting this far in the Presidential campaign. At the very least, his ethics and morals are extremely questionable. No better than the politicians his supporters think he would be a good choice to replace.

Thanks, Surfer. I'm probably to blame for that whole thing but his post pissed me off. My apologies to all.

I knew this thread would bring out the right wing racists.

I don't understand why you would say such a thing.....Did I miss something in Doc's post that was racist?? :RpS_unsure:

Right wing ? Maybe.Racist? I really don't get that vibe.

Look, I despise Donald Trump as much as any sane, thinking person would, but I fear this thread might veers dangerously close to a political debate (no thanks to Trump's political ambition) which is a no-no topic here.

Actually, Surfer wasn't siding with you, just so you know.

As okosh asked, "Did I miss something in Doc's post that was racist??"

Yeah, I was wondering about that part too. :RpS_confused:

I did to go to lengths to add a quote from Michael Jordan after all (you do know who Michael Jordan is, don't you?).

So I pissed you off - Great!

And no, I don't accept your dumb ass apology.
