Good story to keep on file in case you don't think MLM is a cult - or at least has a cult mentality.

The dream catcher: A Herbalife guru and his regime of sexual control and humiliation

Tzachi Gozali, and the mantra he delivers to members of his organization:

"I was a kid from Kiryat Ata. Today I’m Gaydamak’s neighbor. Bibi’s neighbor. I live in Caesarea. I drive a car that costs as much as a house. Anyone who listens to me will succeed the way I did. Put some money in. You don’t have any? Get a loan from the bank. Bring your discharge payment from the army. Don’t listen to your parents. They’re dream-stealers. They don’t want you to succeed because they didn’t succeed. All the people on the outside are miserable and unhappy. They make NIS 5,000. Only those who listen to me will achieve success. What’s up with your friends? Why aren’t they here? Friends that aren’t involved in this aren’t true friends. Erase them. If someone has the flu − don’t you stay away from them? It’s the same thing. This organization is your only family. You have no true friends. I care about you more than your parents do.”

Of course, when the inevitable poop eventually hit the fan, this was Herbalife's response:

A spokesperson for Herbalife: “The distributors of Herbalife are self-employed businesspeople and are not employed by the company. We teach and promote activity at the ethical level and at the highest level of integrity of business management.

Translation: "Do what you have to do to move product, but if you get caught, you're on your own."

Sounds just like a speech I heard while I had a brush with Amway.

This hit so close to home. The number of friends I once had that turned their backs once I expressed my skepticism about their "business". MLMs in general attract cult-like mentality. Leaders > Followers. It's how it works.

I had an Amway diamond say to my husband, "Tell your WIFE to stop talking so negative." And so I stopped talking and started posting. :RpS_biggrin:

This is probably the scumbaggyist (it's a word.........look it up in the Whip definitions of douchebaggerypedia) statement I have ever seen from a shitbag like this:

Don’t listen to your parents. They’re dream-stealers. They don’t want you to succeed because they didn’t succeed.

I'd be hard pressed to find even the shittiest of parents outside of outright abusers to not want their kids to be better off than them.
Meanwhile, you know this turd is leeching off any kids he might have.

The incomprehensible thing is its not like MLM breeds success in terms of money or otherwise. I'd bet even Vegas turns out more winners and happier marriages each year.

I'm not a parent, but was talking with the daughter of my GFs cousin and my thought to her was you want as many options in life as possible. MLM seems the exact opposite, close all the doors unless "prospects" buy your crapo message right off the bat.

You have probably seen this blog its one of my favs, really scores some points on what MLM does to relationships.

I'm married to a former Ambot - one of those annoying commissioned Amway salespeople. Fortunately he saw the light of the horrible cult he was part of and ended his association. I'm here to report on the crap he took and I had to put up with. Hoping I might be able to help some poor souls who find themselves in the same situation I was - married to an ambot.

I wonder how it came about, then, that millions of people associate MLM with lifestyle changes, luxury cars, tropical islands, million dollar earners, unemployed truck drivers made good and spending more time with family.

HINT: it's not by accident.

One of the last Amway meetings I can remember attending was at the invitation of a guy who was an OTR truck driver. I had never seen him in anything other than a white t-shirt and work pants. That night, brand new suit and tie. The couple presenting drove many hours to be there. They did not want to discuss their Amway income with me, maybe they just felt guilty in front of the group? My pal never joined, and I have no idea what happened to him or that suit.

It is certainly not. A very well rehearsed message and passed down like the MLM distributorships that were supposed to run three generations deep. Effective, even if the numbers from the DSA are divided by two.

Yep, they use that to entice people into joining. That you too can have all this if you join and do what we tell you. Looking back, we never really knew if anyone on stage actually had all they showed.

But these gimmicks are quite effective at getting one's attention for sure.
