In my six years of working in China I always was on guard against the Chinese head-hunters and job recruiters and visa agents. I could never really trust any Chinese who tries to tell me with a straight face that their name in Phil Gao. Half of that name may be true but the other half is fabricated and if he ever ripped me off the cops would just roll on the floor laughing after they ask me the name of the guy who swindled me.
But today I learned it is the foreign scam perps I need to worry about most in China - the Americans who own and operate thebeijinger.com (Michael Wester) and ESLcafe.com (Dave Sperling). Why? Let me count the ways that China Scam Patrol just revealed to the world...
* Their forum moderators have ferociously been protecting their paying advertisers by deleting roughly all the negative "Warning" posts teachers have been posting. They were just caught in the act doing this at http://www.scam.com/showthread.php?t=644914 with over 50 known unlicensed scam operations who have been buying ads to lure even more victims
* Approximately half of all the job ads posted at both thebeijinger and eslcafe are fake, just as was recently disclosed about echinacities.com at http://cinascamwatch.wordpress.com These fake ads are used to get hundreds of teachers to send in resumes - it is called "sales lead generation."
* Users who catch on and bitch about this clever smoke and mirrors promptly get banned at all three of these forums.
* When five different users tried to post the CFTU white lists and direct employers list so other users could apply directly for the jobs without the costs and risks of using a middleman (recruiter or agent) the posts were deleted repeatedly and the users banned.
So you don't believe me eh? Read for yourself. IMO expats who scam other expats are true sleaze that should be exiled to Madagascar and deprived of all form or electronic communications and sex partners so they can screw each other. But they would probably feel more at home in North Korea.
