One of the blessings of my life is that my father passed along the advice "don't believe everything that you read in the newspaper".
The explosion of digital information via the internet has drastically increased the volume of inaccurate information available to people (such as pyramid/Ponzi victims).

While it's easy to assign validity to sources we generally "trust", I occasionally find myself perplexed by what seems to get past the vetting of the editors. I found this photograph of a "jumping tank" included (#8) in a "The week in 31 photos (http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/10/world/gallery/week-in-photos-1010/index.html)" feature on CNN. With my skepticism cranked up based on what I know about what tanks weigh and what kind of forces it would take to get something like that off the ground, I found that the same photograph was being used in a "Pictures of the day: 7 October 2014 (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/picturegalleries/picturesoftheday/11145300/Pictures-of-the-day-7-October-2014.html?frame=3064688)" feature at the United Kingdom's respected Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/).

The tank in the photo is a Russian-made BMP-3 amphibious infantry fighting vehicle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMP-3).
It weighs 41,200 lbs.
The main cannon on it is 100 mm.
Maximum speed under ideal conditions is 45mph.

I'm curious as to the opinions of people as to whether they think this photo is fake or real and what their basis for their opinion is.

Is the pic trying to give the illusion that the recoil from the gun caused this? If so, I would think this tank is useless as it would never hit it's target.

It's probably real .Give any tank enough speed and a ramp and they can easily catch air, most modern MBTs can do this .Of course such manoeuvre are useless beyond exhibition for obvious reasons.

No, the pic and video are showing the tank has the capacity to fire, even when it is jumping obstacles.

As for accuracy, it's hard to see the shell getting within a bulls' roar of the target in the first pic

Thanks for the responses!

LRM's YouTube link to the T-90 going off the dirt ramp is really impressive. Depending on date of manufacture and configuration, the T-90 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-90) is propelled by a 12-cylinder diesel engine putting out 840 to 1,250 hp and weighs 30 tons more than the BMP-3, with a top speed of 37–40 mph.

In the newer 500hp version, the BMP-3 has a power/weight ratio of 27 hp/tonne compared to the T-90's 18.1 to 26.3 hp/tonne, so I have to concede the plausibility of getting those things 3 feet off the ground when coming off of a carefully designed ramp at top speed.

What's bothering me, is that even under ideal conditions of ramp build and speed, you can see that all of the tanks in the YouTube videos land on dirt and plow a considerable amount of it with their undercarriage in the process. The "jumping tank" photo appears to show the BMP-3 about to land from a height of 3 feet+ on concrete.

I don't think it's arguable that if it's real, the photo is very carefully staged and would possibly cause the $3.2 million to $4.5 million tank to leave the scene on a flatbed for some very expensive repairs!

Wow! Amazing.

Here's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonov_A-40) that link in English.
