My favorite city. If you have never gone and checked out downtown Nashville, you don't know what your missing. It is a great time, the music, the food, outstanding.
The police will come into bars from time to time to let you know they are there. There is no and I mean no graffiti in the downtown area, it is very clean. When the bars close there are many, many cabs there waiting to pick you up. You don't have to wait on a cab there, you walk out the bar and there will be one right there to pick you up.
It's something out there in Nashville, as soon as a good band starts jamming people just pour in off the streets, and the women start dancing on top of the bar. Crazy good time. Last time I was there (sadly it has been a while) I heard the lyrics........
Got a cartoon coyote on a glass full of gin, can't find a job so I'm drinking again.

I have been to Memphis many times but only once to Nashville. On a layover we were invited to some crazy midget car races, so a group of us drove over there from Memphis. It was really fun. I never got to see the city though or downtown. We were out in the boonies at some big dirt track with grandstands at night. There was some incredible bbq food stands and the people were very really friendly and nice and everyone just talks to you and makes you feel welcome. It was a real family type of activity, parents, kids, grandparents. I had never even heard of those little cars before. (I don't really following any car racing) They went like a bat out of hell though. I also spent a lot of time in Atlanta and that was something I always liked about the South.....how friendly everyone was. That and the fried everything and the bbq. lmao And the blues and jazz music of course. I spent many a happy night on Beale Street in Memphis walking from club to club eating and listening to great music. I hope you get to go back there again sometime and enjoy yourself.

I have been to Memphis area many times, though never went to Beale Street. There was only parking for me in West Memphis, AR and the taxi ride down there would of cost a fortune. In Nashville the truck stop was right across the street from where the Titans play, and not far from downtown, so I would walk down there, and take a cab back. If I had some time I would drive down to Tunica, MS. at the Grand Casino. There was this time I was playing black jack. (have not played that game for quite some time).

I was having a great time of it and the place was just packed, I was drinking and had a good a buzz on. I started with $200.00 and after about eight hours of playing I had $1500.00 dollars in chips. When I did play the game I was a damn good player I have to say.

I had to go to the bathroom, when I went back out onto the casino floor, I could not find my table. I was buzzed to say the least. I kept walking around and could not find my table to save my life. I found a cocktail waitress and said I have $1500.00 on a table and I can't remember where my table was at. She was very helpful and finally after sometime we found my table. Man that place was packed that day. The people at the table said were did you go? I said I could not remember where my table was. I knew I needed to go so I took all my chips and placed them on one bet, the dealer said man you don't want to do that. I said yes I do.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. I had 20 dealer had 19, I didn't forget that.

Its been a while since I have been to Nashville but I can attest it is probably the nicest big city I have ever been in. It has not always been like this. Back about 30 years ago downtown was a dump. It is totally different now. Last time I was there myself and several others rode motorcycles to downtown and parked them on the street. You dont have to worry about anybody down there messing with anything because most everybody is super nice and the cops patrol on foot and horseback. They dont bother anybody and just make their presence known. I never saw anybody get out of line and a lot of families with small kids were around as well. Downtown is super clean unlike most big cities. Its a great place to got eat or drink or sight see or whatever turns your crank. Its just a fun place.

Now, back a long time ago there were strip clubs everywhere. Dont ask me how I know that.:RpS_blushing: That has all been cleaned up and I doubt you could find one anywhere in the entire town. At least that was what I was told. The church people ran them out.

There is a ton of fun stuff to do there. One of the neatest things I did was take a tour of the country stars homes. Some live like kings and others live fairly modestly.
Alan Jacksons place is over the top. It was hard to get a good look at it because its so far off the road but he aint hurting for money. I got to see where Martina McBride, Brooks and Dunn, Little Jimmy Dickens, Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Tammy Wynett, and a whole bunch others that I cant remember lived.

I want to go back. Its just such a cool place(and Im not a city person) with so much to see and do and I love this part of the country. I have been to Memphis just once to see Graceland. I ended up getting lost on the wrong side of town (projects) in the middle of August in a black S10 Chevy with no air conditioning. :RpS_laugh: Boy, that was fun. I would like to go back there also. I dont think there is anything hotter than that Memphis heat. When I was there it was over 100 degrees F and the humidity was so high you could barely breath. Best to plan a trip to Memphis during a cooler month. Trust me on that.

I love to hear travel stories and peoples experiences. Call me crazy but my next trip is to Detroit. Im a car nut and I know the town has turned into a dump but there are things there I want to see like the Henry Ford museum. Anybody been to motor city lately?
