You can go to freelancer.com, and alike sites. All of them will have listing, and what the people want done. This way you can get an idea of the job, and the pay you can get out of it.

Whatever you do stay away from FREELANCER dot COM!!! If you don't believe that just search here in RS for freelancer and see how many people have complained about losing their money with these people. There must be some good ones out there but please do not lose your money with this company.

AND, freelancer dot com will cheat you out of every penny you earn and take more from you AFTER you complete the assignment, do some research on this company and hear the complaints from many other people who lost their money.

Freelancer, oDesk and even Elance are all great sites for working from home. They allow you to bid on jobs and if you get hired, you can often build long-term relationships with the clients. You do need to be cautious because some clients scam you; they take your work but never pay. However, there are thousands of great clients who do reward you for your hard work. You just need to find a few clients who can give you long term work.

Check out this link; it lets you check out known scammers on oDesk, Elance and Freelancer. You can even report people if they don't pay you for your work.

Freelancer, oDesk and even Elance are all great sites for working from home.

A lot of people have brought up problems with Freelancer and Matt Barrie that seem to go well beyond a few bad apples on the employer side. I would encourage people working from home to spend a few hours reading before committing to a big project.

One concern I always have with any "program" is what I will call the Fake Ass CSR that shows up to "set the record straight" or "make things right". I believe there have been three or four on RS alone, they also made the rounds on the numerous other anti scam threads.

I personally have worked mostly on oDesk and I've been able to make quite a nice living on there. I find there are less scammers on oDesk but you still have to be very cautious. Again, you really need to find a few good clients who want to keep you for the long run. Until you can find that, you've got to expect to go through some bad apples

I've been a freelance translator for approx. 10 years. I find that the best way to get real clients is to build relationships in the real world. You can search on the net and apply/bid for jobs, which can give you some occasional clients, but if you want to build a solid client base you have to also be willing to go out, network and talk to real people who can request your services or act as referrals.
