A federal judge sentenced TV pitchman Kevin Trudeau Monday to 10 years in prison for bilking consumers through his infomercials.

Prosecutors asked Judge Ronald Guzman for the 10-year sentence at a Chicago hearing. Defense lawyers contended the 50-year-old from suburban Chicago should serve less than two years for his criminal-contempt conviction.

In a scathing filing last week, prosecutors called Trudeau "an unrepentant ... huckster" and said they could think of no comparable case of someone cheating people so brazenly. The defense called the characterization "overblown and unfair"...

"Trudeau, 51, smiled slightly as U.S. District Judge Ronald Guzman imposed the sentence. The judge called him "deceitful to the very core."


"Trudeau issued a long statement, saying his four months in a Loop jail had changed his perspective and led him to realize he had made many errors. He looked frazzled from his four-month stay in the Metropolitan Correctional Center, a federal Loop jail.

But Judge Guzman was unimpressed, saying Trudeau treated court orders as impediments to be ignored and that his conduct eroded faith in the judicial system."

This is outrageous, KT has done so much to help me. He brought me into the fold of secret societies, lose weight, and gave me a mega memory. I for one will be donating to his appeal fund!! After all, it is not like he has millions hidden somewhere, and that is the whole reason he is in jail.

Er sorry, I forgot where I was, 10 years is better than none, but strikes me as way too short. He will be 60 when he walks out to millions, much better than some guy slaving 9-5 at an honest job.

It's worth noting that this ten year sentence was just for contempt of court, for ignoring a court order that restricted him while another court case was supposed to play out; it is still possible that further court decisions could stretch his federal staycation far into his golden years.

BREAKING UPDATE!! Ed Foreman, went to jail because he lunged at the judge like he was going to strike him!! 6 armed marshals tackled him to the ground. GIN zombies in the court room were crying out to the Marshalls to leave Ed alone. He was trying to use his congressional authority but it didn't work. Judge Guzzman, said it is a mandatory 10 year sentence and after that he has to spend 5 years in a half way house.

The crazy old geezer jumped the rail and tried to get at the judge! That's hilarious!

Kevin Trudeau released to custody of his parents

Chicago (WM WireNet) April 1, 2014 --

Infomercial pitchman Kevin Trudeau, who was convicted of criminal contempt last November for repeatedly defying court orders regarding infomercials for a diet book, and was sentenced last month to ten years in a federal prison, was released Tuesday to the custody of his parents, Robert and Mary Trudeau of Lynn, Massachusetts, for an indefinite period. Judge Ronald Guzman signed the order releasing the pitchman to the elder Trudeaus' custody until the courts make the final decision about the prison in which he will be serving his sentence. "It's the compassionate thing to do," said Guzman, "since after all, his parents are getting on in years and are in very poor health."

When asked if Trudeau was considered a flight risk, Thomas Kirsch, one of Trudeau's attorneys, responded, "Mr. Trudeau has indicated that he will indeed be flying to Massachusetts, where he will be staying with his parents and helping them put their affairs in order. As for the question of this being a risk, it is no more so than any airline travel. There is always some risk of course, but flying remains one of the safest forms of transportation. No, we don't see any particular risk."

Trudeau was also given back his passports so he can travel to his luxury apartment in Zurich, Switzerland "to pick up a few things" that might look nice in his elderly parents' Massachusetts bungalow, which according a recent report by noted inferior decorator Augusta Wend, is "sadly lacking in faux-finishes, puffy gold couches, and pretentious reproductions of Renaissance art."

Once back in the US, Trudeau will surrender to the custody of his parents, where he will be placed under house arrest at night and will not be allowed to travel outside of North America during the day, except on weekends.
