Jokes aside fox hunting is a big scam here in Tasmania.....The gov is being conned into giving over millions for the hunt and eradication of foxes.....
But there is no evidence that any foxes exists....Or that they ever existed here...

IIR ther are not any Aborigines from Tasmania either. I know some tribes may claim to come from there but they don't seem to the able to prove it. IIR the reason was that when the English arrived in Van Diemen's Land a boput 1810-1830 they decided more sport was to be had hunting local natives and the Redcoats hunted them to extinction! That's of course excluding the 200 or so left out of 10,000 or so population which they replaced with 75,000 criminals sent there for life sentences. Those 200 they promised recompense to and lied to and basically transported them elsewhere until the entire race/language/culture was annihilated. This same "civilised" culture later set up concentration camps in South Africa around 1905 long before the Germans ever thought about it.

Many of these "criminals" of course were Irish Catholics or some even educated aristocrats whom the English didn't want around while they were concurrently committing genocide in Ireland. a number of famines in the 1820's and 30s culminated in a widspread one in 1845 which was of a similar scale to the one in the 1740s. They were not quite as successful at that genocide since their export of foodstuffs while many starved only resulted in about a million direct deaths and a million emigrations but it did cause a population decline in Ireland which constantly fell didnt begin to grow again until about 1970 . In fact in spite of having the youngest population in Europe that 40+ years growth has got the population to just about half the level of 1845! And Ireland which had an economy

of about half of England Wales and Scotland in 1840
had collapsed to about a tenth of the Rest of the UK by independence around 1920

So maybe their genocide wasn't so unsuccessful as I earlier thought.

Foxhunting, I think an Irishman referred to it once as "the unspeakable in full pursuit of the uneatable."
Yes one of Wilde's.

Mind you hunting is still popular in Ireland.
