Archer Bonnema Christian Scammer / Millionaire Mentor Fraud with Tim Darnell / My House Ministries

I will begin this sordid saga with Arch Bonnema's bankruptcy filings. Here we have another scammer thumping a Bible in order to empty his victims pockets. Not surprisingly, this clown got hooked up with serial scammer Tim Darnell and his sidekick Jack Weinzierl. Many of us shook our heads when we learned Bonnema was in bed with Darnell, but birds of a feather do flock together to be sure. He actually got involved in that scam advertising as shown in the following thread with the court exhibits. Not in the least Christian!

Bonnema, like Tim Darnell, happily lied to people whose pockets he was emptying in order to make a fortune for himself. He was adjudicated to be civilly liable for several million in losses by investors due to fraud.

These frauds were advertising that the charity was 501 c 3 in 2007 and when I called them on it their son messaged me begging me to remove my thread on Scamdotcom. He assured me that they had paid an attorney to handle registering with the IRS and they had believed he would. I was told that would be corrected with all due haste. That was in 2007 and this scam has never been registered in all the years since.

Of course they learned the fine art of charity fraud from Tim Darnell. Setting up a bogus charity is a great method for enticing trusting, good Christian warm marks. The bankruptcy examiner noted accounting irregularities for the charity and other businesses for Bonnema. Darnell and Jack Weinzierl had the same issues with their fraudulent charity. Weinzierl was on Scamdotcom angrily insisting that the Treasures for the Kingdom charity was a 501 c 3 as well and properly registered with the IRS, when I know for a fact from my IRS contacts they never bothered to file a shred of paperwork. These scammers will lie about whatever they have to in order to make $$$$$.

Tax exempt organizations are the fastest growing sector in the U. S. economy. Over 68,000 new charities were created between 2006 and 2007. There are nearly 1.9 million nonprofit organizations, and the competition for funds has become intense.
As charities face inflation, government budget cuts and an increasing public demand for services, they ask you for more donations. Increasing numbers of charities use high-tech fundraising techniques. Mailboxes overflow with fund-raising appeals. Phone calls pour in from high-pressure solicitors. All this can leave you confused about which charities are most deserving of your contributions.
Most charities are honest and accountable to their donors. Unfortunately, a few are not. AIP suggests the following pointers to help you give more effectively.
1. KNOW YOUR CHARITY
Charities have an obligation to provide detailed information to interested donors. Never give to a charity you know nothing about. Request written literature and a copy of the charity’s latest annual report. This should include a list of the board of directors, a mission statement and the most recent available audited financial statements with accompanying notes.
If a charity does not provide you with the information you request, you may want to think twice about giving to it. Honest charities typically encourage your interest and respond to your questions.
2. FIND OUT WHERE YOUR DOLLARS GO
Ask how much of your donation goes for general administration and fundraising expenses and how much is left for the program services you want to support. AIP’sCharity Rating Guide (http://www.charitywatch.org/ratingguide.html)recommends that in most cases 60% or more of your charitable donation should go to program services. In AIP’s view, 60% or greater is reasonable for most charities. The remaining percentage is spent on fundraising and general administration. Less than 40% should be spent on general administration and fundraising costs. Note: A 60% program percentage typically indicates a “satisfactory” or “C range” rating. Most highly efficient charities are able to spend 75% or more on programs. Keep in mind that newer groups and those that are working on less popular issues may find it necessary to spend a greater percentage on fundraising and administrative costs than well-established, popular groups.
Attempt to seek more information about charities that identify as “public education” large portions of their direct mail and telemarketing expenses. This may be done in some cases to disguise high fundraising costs.
It is difficult to find out the real percentage of donor dollars spent on program services due to the inconsistent quality of charitable self-reporting. But you can ask the charity’s representative for specific information, such as how many individuals were served annually or what were the major program accomplishments during the past year.
3. DO NOT RESPOND TO PRESSURE
Do not let yourself be pressured into contributing on the spot. If you are not familiar with a charity, request additional information in writing. Inspect it carefully and write a check if you decide to donate. You have a right to say no. No legitimate organization will pressure you to give immediately.
4. KEEP RECORDS OF YOUR DONATIONS
Do not give cash. Also, do not give your credit card number to a telephone solicitor or internet site that you do not know. Be sure to obtain a receipt or printed copy of your donation so you will have a record for tax purposes. Read more tips for giving on-line (http://www.charitywatch.org/articles/online_giving.html).
For tax purposes, you will need to keep a record of all your contributions of any amount. For contributions under $250, records may be in the form of a bank record, cancelled check, or written communication from the charity. The written communication may be in the form of receipt or letter that must contain the charity's name and the amount and date of the contribution.
For all tax-deductible contributions of $250 or more, the IRS requires that you obtain a receipt from the charity (a cancelled check will not suffice).
5. REMEMBER: “TAX EXEMPT” DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN “TAX DEDUCTIBLE”
Not all charities soliciting for “good causes” are eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. “Tax exempt” means the organization does not have to pay taxes. “Tax deductible” means the donor can deduct contributions to the charity on his or her federal income tax return. Request the charity’s tax exempt letter. If the charity does not have a tax exempt letter indicating its status with the IRS, you cannot legitimately claim your contribution as a tax deduction......

7. DO NOT BE ENTICED BY EMOTIONAL APPEALS
Beware the pathetic “sob story.” The hard-luck appeal is a favorite of some organizations. Question phone solicitors or direct mail appeals which tell you nothing of the charity or offer vague explanations for spending your charitable dollars.
Anyone who has donated to this charity should file formal complaints so that the IRS will go in and audit!

That should be a corporation that is listed as tax-exempt and not as a taxable entity in good standing. Notice the Bonnemas are the only directors listed, so they between them have all the say over where every penny goes. That is hardly a board that is in a position to exercise its fiduciary responsibilities responsibly. The directors list shows these folks at the 1.5 million dollar mansion they were forced to sell in the chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Beginning in 2008, Archer Bonnema of McKinney persuaded House members Wayne Christian, Phil King, Ken Paxton and Bill Zedler to invest in Pirin Electric, a company that developed software to assist traders on the energy market....Shortly after the initial investments were made, the House members, along with more than 20 other North Texans, lost their stakes. Records show they collectively lost $2.5 million....

After the purchase, the men launched Pirin Electric as a place where investors could open trading accounts. Bonnema began to solicit investors, appealing in particular to North Texas Christian conservatives.

He had been closely linked with the community for years, often distributing video accounts of a 2006 expedition to Iran, led by Dr. Bob Cornuke, that he participated in. Bonnema said they discovered Noah’s Ark, though experts have disputed the claim....

Led by King, the lawmakers and other investors moved to get their money back. They won a judgment in a lawsuit filed in Parker County.


Such judgments rarely result in the plaintiffs getting any money, and Bonnema was heading to federal bankruptcy court to shield himself from creditors.


But debt caused by fraud cannot be eluded through bankruptcy. So the plaintiffs, including the lawmakers, had a chance to recoup some of their money.


This scammer was tangled up with Tim Darnell and Jack Weinzierl in Advantage Conferences. Sleazebags of a feather flock together.

Arch Bonnema, even though he is the wealthy founder and president of My House Ministries, is something of a lowkey figure. He is also a philanthropist who may, in the end, not be evil – though he is definitely confused. He was the producer of (and appeared in) the movie "The Genius Club" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499484/), a heavy-handed, rather explicitly Christian thriller featuring Stephen Baldwin (http://www.americanloons.blogspot.com/2013/03/466-stephen-baldwin.html), Tom Sizemore and others. He also had a central role in the Impact: The Passion of the Christ, a documentary on the impact of, well, Mel Gibson’s eponymous fake-snuff torture porn.

So how did he get on the list of loons? Well, primarily because he suddenly showed up here (http://scienceblogs.com/dispatches/2006/06/17/noahs-ark-found-again/). As part of his philanthropic ventures, Bonnema sponsored and participated in Bob Cornuke (http://americanloons.blogspot.com/2010/10/83-bob-cornuke.html)’s expedition to find Noah’s Ark in Iran in 2006. And Bonnema appears to believe that they actually found it (and still seemed to believe that (http://theadanews.com/local/x1296862535/Texas-man-presents-possible-Noah-s-Ark-find) in 2012, traveling around presenting pictures and alleged artifacts from the "find"). That’s ample qualifications for an entry.

Diagnosis: Although he probably means well, it is hard to judge when you’re so off the deep end. A generally lowkey figure, but definitely one to watch.
