Scooter thief bounces back to cops

A brazen teenager who allegedly stole a scooter and later attempted to flee police had the misfortune of landing right into the hands of authority when he jumped a fence and landed on a trampoline.

Officers on patrol east of Geraldton were alerted to the theft of a scooter from a home in Utakarra about 8.50pm last night and soon after found it being ridden on a nearby street.

The young driver of the scooter failed to stop and instead attempted to flee police before hitting a kerb and falling off the bike.

Police chased the offender on foot before the teenager jumped over a fence in a bid to make a quick getaway.

A trampoline against the wall of the property simply bounced the offender directly in to the hands of police, who were close behind.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with steal motor vehicle, reckless driving, no authority to drive, failure to stop, no helmet, excess 0.08 and possession of a prohibited drug (cannabis).

He will appear in court at a later date.
