Glimdropper is obviously anti anything that may or may not involve politics, don't you know that the world is run by politicians so whoever you support is ok by me I was just giving my own personal view on a certain individual who I think is obnoxious and should have his brain engaged before he opens his mouth.

There are plenty like him in the uk that need a checkup from the neck up!

So don't be a plank and open the thread you closed.

I agree with you on Romney GOF but glmdropper is expressing the views of the majoity here. It is so easy to make judgements about people because of their political views, that I think it is better to avoid the subject altogether.

I am a floating voter and so was my father. I never make up my mind till the last minute because I miss my father's opinion. I nearly go beserk when people who knew him assume that he was influenced by old Liberal party politics. He thought about things and made up his own mind. He even voted Welsh Nationalist in one election.

He got on like a house on fire with my father in law who read the The Times and the Dailly Worker from cover to cover in an attempt to get a balanced outlook. Liberal Politics and WorldWar1 are not my subject. That really is a niche market for erudite grumpy old farts. Unfortunately not many who went to the trenches are likely to be in the land of the living or fully compos mentis now.

We respect all our posters and love good debate and sparring. But, we elected from day one here not to have a political forum. It gets ways to nasty and heated and is very time consuming and difficult to moderate. It also attracts some posters that are way too colorful and just plain rude for our humble little forum. So, my apologies, but we would rather not host discussions of candidates in the name of peace and harmony.

It's closed not deleted and I am sure that the decision was not personal. You obviously weren't a member of Scam dot com. The political forum there is often a very unpleasant place to be and has caused major rifts between members. Political discussions have their place, but here at Real Scam the only thing that unites the members is their repulsion of fraudulent activity. Some of us have very strong political views (myself included) but if we start airing them on this forum, we will end up having some very serious disagreements with people who we otherwise work well with on the anti fraud front which could make it difficult to continue.

It was agreed from the very beginning not to have a political forum here and which is why those of us who have a lot to say on the subject do keep our views off this forum, however much we would like to express them at times.

Personally I am very glad we don't discuss politics here as I honestly believe it would hurt the board and distract from its purpose

Hi,

Hello Admin,

Those of us who have been here from the beginning are aware of the unwritten rule on political discussions (or the lack of them). A lot of new people have joined the board since then. Perhaps it's time to make a small addition to the forum rules, so that it is clearer and will avoid this kind of problem in the future.

GOF. If you are going to leave because of a political thread being closed on a forum whose purpose is to establish whether schemes are scams or not that is a shame. And no, I am not annoyed, just concerned.

I am hoping for good news tomorrow. There are far more important things happening in USA than politics. Our news made me shudder and worry about friends on the East Coast. I "pray" for everybody in the area.l

The news this morning certainly does not look good for the East Coast USA and the most heavily populated areas. Subways could be flooded, blackouts, etc. Now I am happy to live in the central part of States. I have relatives in PA and along the Coast but further South, will be praying for all in harm's way.

Yes, P2P, that forum you mentioned from Scamland is just what I have named them - forums of hate and filth. They will do and say anything at this point.

It is probably a Northern English expression. We talk about the North/South divide in England as Northerners and Southerners are very different. John is a Northerner from a part of England where they with speak with an accent which is very well known to those of you who have watched the TV series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. They call their women "Pet" and it is very endearing. When John got on the phone to me, one of my cats used to try to locate the person with the lilting voice which was music to a cats ear. She sent him loving messages in "purr"

Poyol may know what it means as he come from that strange part of England. They call dinner "tea" or "high tea" and a sandwich is a "buttie." The women are reputed to extremely dominant. Auf Wiedersehen, Pet was hysterical as the men were all ruled by a clan of coniving wives and girl friends.

My reason for discouraging political opinions is that people are far too likely to try and read behing the lines and get a totally wrong opinion of a person's motivation from a comment about politics. I have not a clue which way I would vote if we had an election in the UK.

My opinions on American politics are based on novels by John Steinbeck and Irene Shreve. The history of the trade union movement in USA is a precedent which makes me a scam buster. Ordinary people joined forces and broke the power of the ruling corporations. These corporations are are not invincible. The film version of "The Grapes of Wrath" by Steinbeck is just as inspiring. People gave their lives for this ideal and the film is a real tear jerker. I know nothing about American politics but the books stirred my emotions on the subject and I am a member of a loose union of North American scam busters to try and help kill off the scamming scum.

Well you might as well close it since only some people can say what they want to. I really don't care, I just don't like losing a member over it. This will be my last time posting in this thread so do what you want to.

We have a small group of "decision makers" here and by what can only be termed as a "fluke of happenstance" I'm in it. I am not 100% sure that I am always right in the decisions I make which is partwise the reason I try to make as few of them as I can. But I have an unusually high degree of confidence in the decision to keep political debate off this forum.

First off we have no need to argue politics here. There are many very fine or simply contemptible (depending on your political bent) forums to do that and they're only a Google away. One of my favorite posters back at the old place held political views and a style of discourse I found offensive, but he was a top shelf scam buster. I could compartmentalize my feeling for him only because I had the luxury there of never having to read the politics forum and only participated in all the other forums.

I don't have that same luxury here which is almost entirely why we don't have a politics forum here.

We've come a long way as a site from where we started. A few weeks in I made a simple configuration error that drew a large number of spambots to the site inflating our "most users online" number. It took us the better part of a year to beat that number (with real users) but today we have several times as many people online. I'd say that meant we're doing something right but that would only be accurate if I pointed out that all of you fine people are the biggest part of that "we."

I don't want anyone to storm off in a huff. I closed rather than deleted GoF's previous post because I wanted an explanation to be available. I'm not going to close this thread because there is an argument to be made. Of all the people who made the effort to contact me directly about my closing of the previous thread all have been supportive, that doesn't mean everyone feels that way. I really don't want this place to be a venue for political infighting but I'm open to discussing the issue. I'm not favorably motivated by ultimatums but I don't wish to push valuable contributors away.

In short, if we can't hold a civil debate over whether or not we should talk politics, I'm quite content to say perhaps we shouldn't.

grumpyoldfart, I am sorry if my decision makes you feel unwelcome. You are correct that you broke no written rule which is why we never treated you as if you had. I am sorry if I've given you offense, that wasn't my intention. Running a web forum is more an art than a science and I'm more of an abstract impressionist than a photorealist. I wont pretend to always make the right decision but I always will make sure that well intentioned argument adverse to my decisions is given a fair hearing.

I really hate breaking my own comment that I would not post here again. Here is a message I sent to one of RS admins and had no reply. We don't need this happening and I am sorry I spoke out.
Would you please remove my comments from that thread?

How dare you close my thread?

I am totally not up to anymore controversy and sorry that I posted in any of them. I like John P. even if he is a GOF but he can protect himself.

Please try to make it more clear in the future for new members (or old) that politics will not be discussed and if someone starts a thread on it - remove the thread and notify them by personal message that it is not allowed. Public discussions against the member with rude remarks only add to the anger. I had the same thing happen to me when I commented on someone else's post. Everyone jumped on me when I did not know it was not accepted. I don't want politics discussed but I don't think members should be rude when someone breaks a rule they were not aware that was in the policy.

So, please if you can, remove the comments I have made. I will not be posting there again.

I appreciate the time and effort that the administration gives to keep RS running. I believe it is an important site and have tried to add to it, not take away from.

Thank you,
Sara

There was no response to my message. I want to make my position clear and agree with the decisions made by the admins. Now that ALA has been mentioned I felt it needed to be said as I do feel a little responsible for that person leaving because it happened right after I joined. I hope that the person returns and I do not want to feel responsible for anyone leaving. I am trying to get some more worthy members in here. Now, please, I want to be finished with this one there are more important things going on.

This illustrates why we avoid the political talk arena. Even discussing whether to host such discussions got very heated. I respect everyone here and I am painfully aware just how heated things can get. I hope everyone has made peace with this and will move on!

I added the note in the rules thanks to Sara's kind reminder. We have a policy of not removing threads without good cause unlike many other forums that are caving in to scammers, but we do reserve the right of the admins to use their discretion in taking action when necessary. Please understand we do have an owner who pays all the bills and that the decision to avoid hosting political debate may not have been publicized, but was in place from day one.

Thanks!

I endorse that 100%. My interest is recruitment and we desperately need people who are waiting in the wings to see if they dare to comment.

Please leave it here GOF. I had to face a battering when I joined. We were both slow to see what was going on at Scamland and some got the wrong end of the stick. I had made a name for myself as a good scam buster on TalkGold and WLD before I joined and I thought everybody here would be keen to accept me without question. It was tough.

We were slow to get out of Scamland but we are out now and nobody can accuse either of us for promoting ponzis as serious business opportunities over there or on any other ponzi promoting forum.

Hi Judy,

I had no idea you were treated so badly when you joined this website forum, if I had known about it I wouldn't have joined. It seems that nearly all of the members wish to remain anonymous, I wonder why?

As you know I do not accept fools or morons gladly, so if they post something that annoys me they will get short shrift, so if my comments are unacceptable to some members they can go forth and multiply or words to that effect.

John.

That is all in the past John. I had been an autosurfer and some members here did not know that I played with spare change from my pension and only recommended them as a fun game. I did not recommend any autosurfs which claimed to be business opportunities. I was violently opposed to them in the beginning. I spoke out about 12Dailypro and warned Adlandpro members that it would burst like the South Sea Bubble. I am not sure why I changed my tune. Only those who were part of Adlandpro remember that I had never claimed autosurfs were anything but a PUNT.

A lot of the people who prefer to remain anonomous were members of Scam.com and these people were aware of the fact that hyips, mlms and other ponzis were not money games. Members who understood that mlms, hyips and ponzis were run by large Inernational crime rings were far more cautious than game players on Adlandpro. When RS opened their doors to people who had been naysayers on other forums like TalkGold and WLD, there was a lot of opposition from some who had never got to know us. One member thought that "scratchy" and I were the same person.

As Adlandpro was one of the first the first network marketing communities, most people did give their real names. Lots of us really wanted to learn to earn online, in those far off days.

The good news is that Adlandpro is falling apart at the seams now.

Hi John,

Prof HH found a reference to a Scamland member who was known to several authourities be both dangerous and violent. I am going out now so I do not have time to find the link but it helps explain why so many people here have decided to remain anonomous.

You have undergone your "baptism by fire" here. A little birdie told me that you had a head on collision with Scamland's Fogel and Allen and got no support from BoggyBoy. Your reputation grows in leaps and bounds

I can not remember much about Veretekk but there have been serious attmpts to resurrect it and you help shedding some light on the origins and nature of the crap would be very much appreciated.

Hi Laidback,

I am relieved to discover you have a great sense of humour. The spell checker thinks this is a mistake? :RpS_confused:

Talking of language I read in the sun newspaper today that the Brummies, that's people who live in Birmingham are having problems with a rent arrears auto telephone service that has a Geordie accent, thats people who live in the Durham area, as they can't get past the first question "What is your account number?"

Brummies pronounce 5 as fi-ove and 9 as ni-oine also the speech software has problems with addresses as well.
