What made you choose Oxwall?

I've looked at Oxwall and JCow, but I'm leaning towards paying for phpFox.

Hi,

I chose oxwall because it has many features included :RpS_cool: that many other network scripts charge you extra for and it seems to be easy to manage from the admin area.

The members section also seems to be easy to navigate and use, why don't you give it a try?

Hi GOF,

I will join your social community, if we can do some intelligent marketing before I promote it.

You set up a free autosurf within a community when there were intelligent and honest members who inhabited the place. It worked for a short time. That was an excellent marketing strategy in those days. There was a market for products and services in Adlandpro before the scammers and porn merchants took control and it became Scamlandpro.

You run a web hosting business and all Internet users need a web host. Your community could work if we can teach people what marketing means and start marketing on the Internet as opposed to "Internet Marketing" as defined by spammers and twits who have no business acumen..

Marketing is 1) Searching your brains for a product that would sell in your area. 2) Finding out how much customers would be prepared to pay for the product. 3) Recourcing the product or a product which could burgeon into a new generation of products.

If you have a community of people who want to advertise products and services and be sure that the community it is not taken over by crooks you need your friends at RS behind you and posts here could be a very good introduction for such a community. What could we sell in your new community?

SBM has said that she has often thought of offering “Do Not Mess With Soapbox Mum” stickers for sale. I think that could be a viable business proposition. Is there was a market for them in The US and we knew how much Texans would pay for the product? If SBM launched the product, what would local shopkeepers in Crewe or London pay for a SBM badge or sticker? How much would Brits have to pay to have SBM stickers produced in the UK? Do we have a sales person who would try to introduce SBM to UK retail establishments other than me?

I know what sells in London. Greetings cards sell very well indeed but greetings cards with a difference could be a very good market. How about greeting cards with flower pictures or botanical drawings on the card with a packet of the flower's of seeds inside? Sutton’s seeds in Reading could be interested in producing some graphics and gardening instructions for us to do a bit of market research. I live near Kew Gardens and Richmond Park. I am sure that local shopkeepers would sell greetings cards with a packet of seeds inside, if they were promoted by a Texan web site where a high proportion of big spenders are reputed to live.

A Point for Discussion

I have had other thoughts on a rather macabre note. I have appointed an executor for my will but what would he get for my domains if I am dead and buried?. There should be some value in a domain that was very similar to the notorious Smirnow’s scam, Pathway2prosperity. I would not be surprised if somebody at RS would like to follow in my footsteps and help get Nickers Smirnow banged up. How could an executor for the will of any scam buster get a decent price for the domain or the right person to carry on the deceased person's efforts?

Hi P2P,

Some good questions here!

When I was a member of adlandpro I did run an autosurf program that was reciprical for every 2 sites a member visited they got 1 visit to their own website, but it was abused by some members and then hacked so I closed the site down.

I also ran a forum called Just Perfect at adlandpro and every month the winner recieved membership to one of my download sites that contained many web templates scripts and ebooks, I intend to do something similar on my new business social website MyBuddy.us (http://mybuddy.us/social) I would like to take this opportunity to thank members of realscam.com for joining Supplied.us (http://afcw.net/exadlanders/) and the support given. However the sites layout and format did not appeal to many and has now been closed.

I can remember you asking me if I could do a website for sheet music that could be downloaded for one of your contacts and I said I could, I can design and host websites for any genuine business and my rates are very reasonable.

The answer to your question of what could we sell? Well anything legal except for adult content or products so no rampant rabbits and no guns, with reference to your executor for the will regarding domain names or websites, I can only offer this advice there are many places on the internet where you can buy and sell domain names and websites so you would need to have this information in your will.

I think I have covered most of your questions? If not then please remind me.

Kind Regards
GOF.

Did you delete you membership GOF? Were you officially banned.

"okosh" was still a member when he last posted but he did say that Kathleen had taken the precaution of banning him from her forums. I wonder if you are still a member because you may still be able to vote in their POTW ballot. I wonder which one "okosh" has voted for this week. A few more newbies or spies from RS in Adland might make a few interesting waves over there.

You may not be banned from Jill's forum yet.

Hi Scratchy,

Thanks for that, but I have just discovered a problem with the site as I upgraded to a newer version yesterday and some features are no longer working, so I have taken the site offline until I can fix it so it could be sometime tomorrow before its back online.

I was a member of your free traffic exchange and I may have bought some banners or text ads. It was a great site because people were not paid to advertise. They bought ads from you if they had things which were worth selling. It worked. A lot of people were very disappointed that you closed it.

I am off for a cuppa and cat cuddle for a bit but I hope that you will help me with an article which I am writing about traffic exchanges. People are inclined to sneer about the idea of sellers selling to sellers. Sellers do sell to sellers in the right context. I traded antiques for a whille. Antique dealers find out fairly quickly, if they are better selling to the trade or to the the public. Most people know that if they go to an antique fair, the doors open to the public at about 9am but the dealers arrive at about 6am and buy from one another. Sellers sell to other sellers in the morning and only mugs trying to sell rubbish for an inflated price remain till the end of the day.

Some of the people who made a packet when traffic exchanges started are still there selling crap to the power of crap. I have named Adlandpro Traffic (http://www.1st-treasures.com/site/te.html) exchance and another one. The traffic exchange owners are getting together to form bigger consortiums and they all think they are King Pins in "The Industry"

As you were one of the few people who ran an early traffic exchange, your comments will be invaluable becuse a new generation does appear to be in the pipeline. Our friend Kathleeen Vanbeenkom has been knifed but she is still alive and kicking. Knives are out to slaughter the loosers and defenders are out with shields to defend their allies. There will be some casualties in this battle.

Here are a couple of links for you to peruse. I Think that RS members stand more chance of launching a new generation of traffic exchanges that sell real products and services in a well policed cyberspace environment than Vanbeenkom and Co. Think about it and I will try to get my Traffic Exchanges web page up this evening.

I'd be curious to know what you're having issues with.

I've had a test install up for a while now that I play with occasionally and just upgraded to 1.4 via softaculous. After doing so, it reminded me to log in to the admin area and update the plugins.

The admin area prompted me with messages like this:

The source code of 'Activity notifications' plugin was updated. Need to update plugin DB.
I had to update Newsfeed, Friends, Activity notifications, Forum, Events, Virtual Gifts, Blogs, Links, Photo, Groups, and Video.

Did you do this(or did it even prompt you to) and still run into issues?

Hi P2P,

I can remember having verbal fisticuffs with Kathleen at adlandpro but eventually she gave up as she was making herself look foolish and banned me from her forums, we did eventually bury the hatchet a short while before I left. I always remember what my mother told me "If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all" I think the modern version is "Zip it"

Thanks for being a member of my autosurf and as a valued friend, if you think there are people who would join a well run autosurf? I may start another I wonder what realscam members think to that idea?

I hate upgrades as they almost always cause problems for me, the php upgrade has caused me no end of problems and I know I am not the only one as there are many searches for php upgade problems on google. Even the banks RBS and Natwest have problems after they upgraded their systems, their customers can't access their accounts major PR disaster not like me just one registered member Scratchycat to appologise to.

Hi surfer,

Thank you for your kind advice its very much appreciated, I have upgraded via cPanel/softaculous and then logged into the admin control panel and upgrade all the plugins and it did prompt me to upgrade each plugin.

I am having issues in admin I can't edit the bottom links or signup questions, I can add new but can't edit afterwards and the wysiwyg editor is none existant now just a text page to edit. I am going to delete the website from whm and install as a new account and then start again using the new 1.4 installation in softaculous because last time I uninstalled from softaculous and then installed again I had issues with the mysql database.

I will come back to you and let you know how I get on.

That's the kind of stuff that drives me nuts and is the main reason why I'm slow to change platforms.

Good thing it's a new site because it certainly wouldn't be practical to tear down and start over if you had a sizable user base.

FWIW, I think this was some sort of conflict with the Instant Chat plugin.

After you mentioned your specific issues, I went to Oxwall ® - PHP Social Networking Software | Community Script (http://www.oxwall.org/forum) to see what I could find out.

I also noticed that I had the same problems as you and that you also could not drag and drop the questions to change the order. Nor could you click on the "Customize this page" link on the front end.

Somebody in the Oxwall forums mentioned can't move Quick Links widget on dashboard | Forum (http://www.oxwall.org/forum/topic/4656) and stated that once they deactivated the plugins their problem was fixed.

I deactivated and reactivated all the plugins but our problem was still there.

I deactivated them all and did not reactivate and the problem was fixed. Of course, that leaves the site with zero functionality. :)

So then I started reactivating them one by one to see if one specific plugin was the culprit and eventually found that the problem only occurred when the Instant Chat plugin was activated.

Tried to uninstall and reinstall that plug, but it didn't fix the issue, so for now I'm leaving Instant Chat in a deactivated state.

Well, that's where I stand with my test site.

Still leaning towards phpFox and paid support. I am definitely not techie enough to do anything more than basic troubleshooting. A serious issue with any of this open source stuff and I'm dead in the bed. :pulling_hair_out:

Hi GOF,

I think that it is better to avoid the word autosurf as it is a bit like "the eff word" to some people. The Scamland style gutter press could put the word around that RealScummers are running autosurfs and they would have a field day. I think you should use the words traffic exchange.

There could be a need for a traffic exchange in the RS community. Surfer is well informed on that and he/she can present the argument for or against another traffic exchange. The only way is to do a bit of market research to find out what RS members buy and sell online. If we did that you could determine if we have have a buyers or a sellers market here.

It might be worth asking members what were the last things that they bought or sold online and what they were prepared to pay for those products.

The last five things that I bought online were

1) My.com web hosting services which I pay monthly. £6.53 pcm
2) A new light source £20 for a specialist architectural light fitting for high rise buildings in summer when trees block out the light. I paid about £150 for the fitting about five years ago.
3) Some gold wax and red gesso to repair damage to some bits of furniture.
4) Some chrome mesh to cover an air brick because our flats were designed by Danish architects and bits of chrome mesh were not cut to the size of bricks here.
5)A book for a friends Christmas present from Amazon.co.uk

The last 5 thing which I sold online were.

1) A stick of Milliput (http://www.ukge.co.uk/uk/aftrack.asp) (I am an affiliate)
2) Membership to one of your sites. $2.5 commission I think.
3) Some text ads on adsvert run by my .com web host.
4) One of my son's bikes that he had not moved from my hall for over a year.
5) Can't remember.

I do not know what this could tells you but it tells me that there is at least one RS member (who is not a big spender) but buys and sells things online if she deems a site trustworthy.

It also tells me that I am somebody who knows a damned site more about how to go marketing on the Internet than most Internet marketers.

Hi Surfer,

Sorry to hear you are also having problems, personally I don't think the upgrade was checked before it was released to see if it worked properly, I have deleted the whole site and started again using cPanel and installing the new 1.4 version via softaculous and the site is now functioning ok.

If I were you I would backup and download your public_html www files and mysql database zips to your computer for safe keeping and then I would uninstall your existing version via softaculous then logout of cpanel for a few minutes before going back and installing the 1.4 version via softaculous then go back into cpanel and go to backups and select restore mysql database for the site.

This should restore all your members info etc, if this doesn't work you can always use your backups to restore the site to the state before you started. I can't guarantee this will solve the problem so don't come back to me and complain.

Kind Regards

Nothing I'm concerned with GOF. :)

These are just test sites where I'm playing around with the look, feel, and functionality of different options.

I have sites set up with Jcow and Oxwall to play around with different open source social networking software.

Most of my current sites are set up with WP, so I've also set up one with Symposium. I didn't care for BuddyPress, but that was a while ago. Another site is set up with S2Member.

I have 2 sites left that are built on Joomla. One of them I'm trying to see if I can find a WP setup that will be acceptable and the other one is the site I'm considering migrating to a social networking platform.

I sell far more than I buy online. I guess I'm old......fashioned. :)

I research things I'm looking for online and then buy them locally in most cases.

As for traffic exchanges, even though I am a member of numerous exchanges, I'm not totally sold on them.

Most of the people that are successful use good splash pages to gather names in their autoresponders or they are very active in chat and build relationships for recruiting that way.

These same thoughts apply to safelists.

A marketplace of some sort would be cool.

Hard to know what might work without knowing the type of people who will be joining.

Hi Scratchy,

First of all appologies for having to delete and re-install the website, I have sent you a PM via RealScam to let you know the site is now back online and that you need to re-register, I think I will now view any type of upgrade as a potential disaster.

Hi P2P,

I will have to go and wash my mouth out with soap, I promise I won't use cars and surfing again. Thanks for your input on what may or may not sell on the internet I think I may have to have a long and serious think about what you have said.

Hi Surfer,

It sounds like you are keeping yourself busy, any chance you could give me links to your sites so I can have a look? If you don't want to post them on this forum send me a personal message with the links.

Thanks
GOF.

There isn't really much to look at on the test sites GOF. I just play around in the back end trying to see what I can do and when I have time read reviews and feedback about the types of issues people have with the various set ups.

Other than my personal blog, I have three "active" sites. Two are using Joomla and the other is using WP. The Joomla sites are a work at home site and a local directory/classified site. The WP site is a site I run for a local non-profit sports club/league.

The work at home site is overrun with backlink spammers and I don't have the time to keep it clean, so I'm toying with the idea of tearing down and rebuilding. That's why I'm looking into these other options. Feel free to PM me if you want links.

Are you on shared hosting?

Hi Surfer,

I will send you a PM shortly for the links, I have tried Joomla but it does my head in just too many things in the control panel to mess up, I have one site running in WP DiscoverLondon2012.co.uk (http://DiscoverLondon2012.co.uk) and I like quick minisite at london2012olympics.org.uk (http://London2012Olympics.org.uk) I use a hosting service that uses a dedicated server in the USA so changes to the php setup can be made I can offer a hosting reseller service with this and I use another host that is on a shared hosting setup in the UK just for a hosting service.

GOF.

Your mum's advice is a good rule of thumb in personal life but I do not think that it applies in business. If we say nothing about people who promote scams and ponzis to line their pockets how can we have any form of self regulating industries? I am sure that none of us would like to live in a police state.

If you bought an expensive packet of seeds from a local shop and found out that they developed into pernicious weeds, I am sure that you would give the merchant and shop, from which you bought the seeds merry hell. Kathleen sells seedling ponzis in her Scamlandpro shopfront and I think that she deserves to be censored by law authorities. You are welcome to feel differently but you joined RS so it is obvious that do not collaborate with people like that

On a happier note, I have put up a web page about traffic exchanges in my RS sig files, giving reasons why I would like to see one within the RS community. I hope that members will give the matter some serious consideration. I suggested that sellers could donate part of their profits to Internet crime fighting organisations making business people and traders behave more like traders who advertise inthe commercial arm of large charities. This is a serious issue and we may have some very sensible contributions from members.

Good job on the London sites. Talk about a niche with some ramped up competition. :)

Not quite sure from your answer if you're on shared hosting or not. Sounds like it.

I've been satisfied with Joomla. My sites are still in 1.5.xx I haven't bumped them to 2.5 yet because it's a bit more involved than just updating to the next version of 1.5 If/when I do, that should help with the biggest hurdle of running a Joomla site which was updating. 2.5 is more automated like WP, which is cool.

Is the PSP.eu site in your sig actually yours? It looks like it's running Social Engine for it's social networking area. Based on that setup, it looks like spam will be a universal issue no matter which solution I settle on. Man, I hate spam.

Oh well. Back to whatever it is I'm doing. :)

I always try to count to ten and make sure my brain is engaged before I open my mouth as its got me into trouble lots of times!

I think my Mother gave me good advice but I do stand up for myself and others, I hate bullies so I slap them down verbally as soon as they appear. I will not stand for shoddy goods or service and I expect to get quality goods and service, but as you know this is often not the case!

Good Idea GOF, I used the auto effword as well, so I will have to emulate you.

I am really looking forward to using a traffic exchange where I can sell my products and services knowing that it runs in well policed cyberspace communities. One of the first things which I will recommend when I walk round places like Richmond, Wimbledon and Twickenham will be a good British web host so we must get my .co site up and running.

A new generation of traffic exchanges is certainly being discussed and deveolped. You can add your comments in the RS threads where this subject has been raised. I f you read my traffic exchanges web page lin my RS sig files, you will see that there are people who want this to come sooner rather than later.

The London sites are superlative GOF. I think we need to laugh BoggyBoy's attemp to provide escorts in London into the ground. If RS members would like an escort to the places which are highlighted on the site, I will gladly be his or her escort. I have an OAP free travel card so a companion would not have to get out a wallet to pay my fares round town.

"scratchy" found Boggy Boy's escort link and I was tempted to register as a London escort. He said he could provide girls but I am still a girl to some older people.

I REALLY THINK YOU HAVE EXCELLED YOURSELF THERE GOF. BoggyBoy's escort service would be a fantastic cartoon version of the sights of London

Another reason that members may not have liked the idea of your opening an autosurf, is that Fred Mann has just opened one for JustBeenPaid and that could put you under the microscope. We know that you ran a free autosurf and did not pay people rebates for watching ads but Eagle has made a post on another forum warning people about the folly of joining an autosurf and having one run here to advertise real products and services as opposed to paying money to people to watch ads for ponzi's and cons could give people reading MMG, TG or Adlandpro the idea that you were in the same league.

Eagle made the following comment on a RS thread about the notorious Fred Mann's new autosurf, which meansin Fred's last ditch attempt to con money from his dying JustBeenPaid.

Comment from Eagle about Fred Mann (http://www.realscam.com/f8/justbeenpaid-810/index14.html)

"Let's see, the government took down CEP, 12DP, PhoenixSurf, and ASD; and Megalido, adventures4U, and several other autosurfs ran with the money. And what does Fred want to do? He wants to add an autosurf to JBP. Talk about painting a bulls-eye on yourself."

It would be a very inopportune time to have an autosurf owner here. That does not mean that thinking of how and where a new generation of traffic exchanges will be developed. As I stated in my web page mentioned in my sig files, there is a need for sellers to meet and sell to other sellers. Antique dealers run antique fairs to sell to other dealers (sellers) and the public. TEs make sense but for the moment it is a sector of cyberspace which is distintly the darker shad of grey. When the new generation come out things will change. I would like to see that sector of cyberspace cleaned up and I would be delited to see you try a prototype.

Sorry its just that some days are worse than others so I get grumpy, I haven't been following the latest RS news as I don't profess to be a scam buster I just want to know if any are before I join them. I have had look at some traffic exchange scripts but the good ones are not cheap so it will have to wait unless someone from the RS Membership wants to buy one?

If they did I would host it free of charge for the first year and then just $4.99 a month.

Don't be an impatient old fart GOF.

You're going to have to grow your community just like you grow any other site out there. Marketing, SEO, continuous TLC, content creation, etc.

RS is not the ideal community from which to draw users. At least, the core membership isn't. I could be wrong, but I don't think most of the leaders and admin here will be all that interested in joining a business/marketing community such as yours.

It's nothing that you should take personally.

You might pull some visitors from here that are researching various companies, but those odds are also small since you aren't a highly active/visible member here in the scam discussion threads.

What is the goal/purpose of your community?

I agree with a lot of points here "surfer." We have to grow our communities. I have groyn mine in my own back yard because most of my marketing is done off line. GOF has followers who use his web hosting services. His and my communities are very different but my followers are very reluctant to buy or sell online because they are aware of the huge percentage of scams with online network marketing.

I tell my people that they can sell or buy products and services online from traders who have a presence in RS. As our main objective here is to bring down scammers and scams we need to be active in scam disscussion threads.

I have said it time and time again. If you buy from a trader on a large station in London you are unlikely to be ripped off as the stations are well policed. If you buy or sell from a trader with a presence on RS, you are also unlikely to be ripped off. People whom I plan to introduce to RS will be experienced local trades people who will not swallow "Internet Marketing." They will be people who know their own markets and come here to learn to expand them.

The main goal/purpose of my community is to provide a website that is useful to members and is free from bullies and trolls.

I have also added to the site by including a Business Listing Directory and comes with the features below:

Favorites management
Secure payment gateway integration

Support for contact list, block list
Full Internal Messaging system

Preconfigured for paypal, and offline payments
WYSIWYG editor for ad posting

Direct selling through paypal for sellers

I have joined your community and commented on the business ideas thread. I have invited a local very talented interior designer from Twickenham to join the community and I hope that she accepts the invitation.

Would "Do Not Mess with Soapboxmum" stickers sell in Twickenham? I think they would sell for £2 a sticker at International rugby matches.

If you, Sara or SBM can produce a design that appeals, we could have a product and a market. If Angela could earn a bit of commission, she may be prepared to sell them in her shop at Twickenham.

Hi GOF,

We have had a few ideas as to what you could sell, which RS members might buy and one thing was sheet music as it can be delivered to a person's computer more cheaply than snail mail and it makes great Chrismas presents

You would need some good advice on copyright law and I am sure that people here would help. As Gilbert and Sullivan is out of copyright some of their scores would be very easy to reproduce online. It is hard to get a G&S tune off the brain but it is the words that are the real genius and some wit could do a parody which you could sell.

You said that Barbara could sing. It would be great for you to test her voice online? Would she do a rendering of. "Ive Got a little List" or "Poor Little Buttercup I?" We could nominate some RS memmbers for role play. How about nominating "okosh" as "The Lord High Executioner?"

"LRM" and "okosh may may like this version

I've got a little list. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NLV24qTnlg)

That's a town from Harry Potter right?

Not sure "whip." I started reading one of the books and decided that I was not interested because, I am a Terry Pratchett fan and I found the character's so bland after Pratchett's witches and wizards,

However Twickenham is well known as a world famous rugby club and they host all the crack teams from the Southern Hemisphere like "The All Blacks."

When there are big matches, people with a fair bit of money to spend crowd the streets and you can sell them any old thing that sounds like a bit of fun.

To any RS member who joined the site please accept my apology as I have now had to close the website down due to spam posts and an excessive use of bandwidth, the domain name is now parked and will now be sold on ebay soon.

Kind Regards
John.

John,

If you're interested in keeping it open yet those were the only issues let me know - could help you out a little!

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your kind offer, but the site has already been deleted and the domain has been parked, I will ask for your advice with any other bandwidth eating websites.

Kind Regards
John.
