Modern history and historians must be amomg the most valuable "assets" ever encountered in the cyberspace world. Who was in the right place in the right time at the dawn of the Internet Era? Who saw a market to be exploited and made big bucks with an honest endeavour?. How many found that the road to hell was paved with good intentions?

The term "Internet Marketing" and "Internet Marketers" causes my hackles to rise. Marketing has nothing to do with selling mass produced sales spiel from self appointed gurus. A marketer sees an opportunity for new commercial activities, rescources products to fill that market and finds out how much customers will pay for the products which he or she has resourced. The term Internet Marketing seems to have been misrpresented so much that a modern definition could be described as hawking undesirable products and produce for self appointed gurus.

Who were the first generation of Internet marketers? Were they genuine entrepreneurs hoping to start legitimate online businesses or were they con artists hoping to build a criminal Empire?

One of the first of these "Historical Greats" was undoubtedly Corey Rudl. Where is the Empire built by Corey now. Another name that sparks off bells in my memory is Jim Daniels who tried to launch a magazine known as Six Figure Income Magazine.

I enclose a comment that I made about these two people on another RS thread. Six Figure Income.

MY THINKING ONLY.

"There was definately another program with the initials SFI in 2002-2003. It was in the days when people were encouraged to geneflect to the founding strategists of Internet Marketing. The name Corey Rudl appered in almost every online communication that I received in those days. The fact that Corey Rudl did exist and that his tragic death was fact, is confirmed by Wikepedia. Rudl's best friend and business partner took over. Derek Gehl became CEO of Rudl's online marketing business when he died.

Bogdan Fiedur of Adlandpro was one of the same generation. Fiedur claims that he had members of Adlandpro who earned six figure incomes. Fiedur spoke of an Adlandpro member (Jim Daniels) as being an Adlandpro member who made a six figure income online. The CEO of Corey Rudl's business is one known as Derek Gehl. Fiedur drops these two names when he tries to sell his Adlandpro Gold Member Package. My experience with Adland's Gold Package which I tried for two or three months was utterly useless. It was completely unmanageable. Support was negligable and most products were ancient history.

Fiedur also writes about one of his members (Jim Daniels) who is purported to be making a six figure income from Fiedur's Corey Rudl inspired marketing strategies. The original SFI was bandied about in this era by these people.

This is Internet history and those of you who remember this era are very welcome to correct me if my memories are a bit hazy.

More help tracing the background and development of these early Internet Marketers would be appreciated. Six Figure Income (http://www.realscam.com/f9/six-figure-income-sfi-still-around-new-name-strong-future-international-tripleclicks-com-1079/)

Now about Corey Rudl... He is one posting from 2005 by a Mike Baggs of Adlandpro:

Are you Serious about Starting a online Business? If you're at all serious about making money with your own online business, then it is essential that you carefully consider the deal I want to make with you today... My good friend Corey Rudl has just publicly released -- for the very first time ever -- the newest edition of his famous "Insider Secrets" online wealth-generating system... and I was wondering if you would mind testing it? You see, I'm considering partnering with Corey (he's making over $40 Million per year in online sales, and he really *gets* how to be successful selling almost anything using the Internet) -- but before I team up with Corey, I want to make absolutely SURE his system will work for my customers and subscribers. So here's what I'm proposing: I've worked out a deal with Corey, and he will ship you (via Federal Express) a 10 lb. box. In this box you'll find 3 resource CDs, 4 guidebooks, and 2 thick binders containing in excess of 1,385 pages explaining the step-by-step instructions on how to start and grow a wildly profitable Internet business. All I'm asking you to do is follow the instructions. If you do this, one of two things will happen: The system will work for you, and you'll start living the dream of "passive" income with your very own Internet business. You'll be literally making money while you sleep! OR: The system won't work for you. If this happens, Corey will personally write you a check for $200 as our way of apologizing for wasting your time.

It appears that the young Corey Rudl died in a racing car accident in 2005.

Corey Rudl, a bright, talented internet marketer, and valued colleague and mentor to me for years, was killed in a race car accident on June 2nd, 2005 at 10:40 am. He was in a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, being driven by Benjamin Keaton.

From the coroner's report: On 6-2-05 at 10:40 AM, Benjamin Miles Keaton, age: 39, from La Jolla , was driving a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT on the inside track at the Fontana Motor Speedway in Fontana with Corey Nicholas Rudl, age: 34, from La Jolla , as a passenger. While traveling westbound on an inside track, the driver apparently lost control, left the north side, careened onto a grass area, collided into a K-rail barrier and caught fire. Emergency personnel immediately responded and quickly extinguished the fire. Mercy Air responded and airlifted Benjamin to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:31 AM. Corey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Corey Rudl: You Will be Missed. Thanks for all your training and teaching help. (http://209.164.90.168/)

Have no idea if someone took over his marketing business at this point.

Corey Rudl (1970-2005) was a Canadian marketing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marketing) strategist, and founder and President of The Internet Marketing Center (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Internet_Marketing_Center&action=edit&redlink=1). He was also an author, speaker, and software producer.
Rudl started his first online business in 1994, with the online book, "Car Secrets Exposed," produced together with Phil Autelitano, and parlayed that into a multi-million-dollar business based on Internet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet) marketing. In response to the demand for his advice, Corey founded the Internet Marketing Center, where he taught techniques and strategies that stemmed from his own experience. His Internet marketing guide is sometimes described as the "Internet Marketing Bible".
Rudl's articles appeared in publications such as Entrepreneur.com, the U.S. Small Business Administration’s –SCORE.org, the Direct Marketing Association, MarketingProfs, Opportunity World, Money 'n' Profits, Dig-IT Now, and Home Business Journal.

Death
Before beginning his business career, Rudl was a motocross (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motocross) driver, winning a 2002 Vancouver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vancouver) Molson Indy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indy_Racing_League) sports car event.

On June 2, 2005, Rudl rode in a 2005 Porsche Carrera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_Carrera) GT driven by Benjamin Miles Keaton (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Benjamin_Miles_Keaton&action=edit&redlink=1), on the California Speedway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Speedway) a San Bernardino county track that was also being used by a local Ferrari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari) sports club. When Keaton tried to avoid a queued car, the Porsche went out of control, left the inside race track and careened onto the grass, hit a barrier at an estimated speed of 100mph and caught fire at 10:40 a.m. Rudl was the passenger and died at the scene. The driver, Benjamin Miles Keaton, 39, was airlifted to Loma Linda University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loma_Linda_University) Medical Center, where he died about an hour later. Both men were not burned but died of crash injuries, even though both were wearing helmets and safety belts.[1] (http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=107156&Main=107156)

Derek Gehl Bio
Derek Gehl is the CEO of one of the biggest Internet marketing companies called Internet Marketing Center. The company is known for their flagship products Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business On the Internet and their Secrets to their Success membership site. Derek took over the company after Corey Rudl’s passing and taken the business to new heights.

Detailed Overview
The Internet marketing world was surprised when it was announced that Derek Gehl was the new successor to the Internet Marketing Center. But it wasn’t an accident as Derek has been working with Corey very closely for many years. Derek has become more involved with his readers and stepped forward, proving a personality for the IMC.

Derek is experienced in many areas of Internet marketing from email marketing, search engine optimization, business building, and blogging. Derek has built on Corey’s fundamental principles and has closely followed the changes in the Internet marketing industry.

He strongly believes in systemizing your business so that it grows without you always having to be working and present all the time. Everything from customer service, follow up marketing, product delivery, and even marketing campaigns should be automated according to Derek.

What separates him from Corey is that Derek interacts with the community through his blog. He also stepped up on teaching search engine optimization and explaining it better. Before his involvement, the Internet Marketing Center did not really keep up with the search engine changes and provided very basic information on the topic. He is also a strong advocate of blogging and web 2.0, releasing a product on blogging and encouraging marketers to take advantage of the hottest web properties.

In addition to that, there is also a big focus on email marketing. Email marketing has always been one of IMC’s most important strategies and they have taken it further by integrating RSS into the strategy. There has been some new additions to IMC including the BeBiz business builder, The Internet Entrepreneur Club, and improvements on their existing products.

Note: If you're on IM Report Card because you're looking for a way to make money online, then you should check out our top recommendation. It's the best method we've found that anyone can use to earn income online. Click here to learn more!
