Gross incompetence and malfeasance in action. Melissa Logan in her paperwork available today claims that Fundamentals of Theory, F1 and F2 are part of the music core. This faculty member has kept her students there an extra (third year or more) at the two year college by handing them documents on paper in writing that they need to complete Theory Fundamentals F1 and F2 to complete their music core. She is supposed to know the Richland Associate's degree plan and Guided Pathway for music. Fundamentals is not on either of those. No university has Fundamentals of Theory on its degree plan as it is not for music majors.

Logan has also been sticking students in Opera Workshop in droves when that is not on Richland's 60 hour Associate's Degree or Guided Pathway. Most universities will require their Choral Education majors to take only 7 ensembles total for their Bachleor's degree of which only 4 can be transferred in and most of those ensembles will be large choral ensembles.

Diction is useful and required at the university level, but it should only be taken if the school the student is transferring to requires it be taken to enter their program as it is over the 60 hours on the degree plan at Richland. Piano Proficiency is required of all music majors, but it is not in the block that will transfer and should only be taken for credit in consultation with the university the student is transferring to. Some only show 1 or 2 piano credits on their degree plans, but a student will be forced to take piano until proficiency is proven or piano proficiency exams are passed. As piano proficiency is required for all degrees and absolutely essential for choir and voice teachers to be able to accompany all their students when needed, all singers should be practicing piano a bare minimum of 1 hour a day so that they become skilled players that can play anything needed.

Voice Masterclass is not a supposed to be a separate class. That credit class that doesn't exist on any degree plan puts students further into out of state tuition. Masterclasses are supposed to be part of the voice studio. Melissa Logan should not be requiring students to take it. Music Literature 1 and 2 are also no on the Richland Degree plan. Music Lit 1307 is the course that is to be taken by music majors as a part of their core requirements. More hours that are not transferrable that students are forced into by this totally incompetent advisor.

The Associate's Degree should be earned as it will transfer as a block to any Texas state university. Anything over 60-66 hours will not transfer. About all Logan has managed to do is advise her students into out of state tuition. All the adjuncts are painfully aware how little their students practice and how poor attendance is in the classes as the students are drowning in garbage classes Logan has put them in. Logan is also supposed to be "constantly reviewing and staying current with collegiate music standards for music courses and degree programs across the US to help advise students for successful transfers to 4-year colleges and universities." She needs to be fired immediately for such incompetence.
